My 01 zx3 started knocking and it is now to the point where it will no longer start. I think the bearings/rod etc. may be shot so I am guessing I will need an engine rebuild kit. Does anyone know of an online store to buy that kind of thing who would ship to Canada as well? I would also like to know what kind of things I can do to improve the performance on a 2.0 dohc zetec without a turbo now that I will be pulling it from the car.
Thanks in advance![bawling]

best bet is a used engine, since if its a rod bearing, ect. you probably ate the crankshaft.
used low km engine 400-500 (most wreckers offer warranties on there engines)
basic rebuild 400-500
rebuild with a new/refinished crank 800-1000ish
rebuilt with forged internals and higher compression 1300-1700
personally i would just get a low km used engine w/ warranty then part out your old engine to recoup some $. if you want something with more go, try looking around for a SVT you can get the engine/ECU/harness/keys from (you will go from 130 crank to 170 crank hp)
just my opinion, but really depends if you just want a DD or use this as an opportunity/excuse to build up the car to a track/street setup
just my opinion

Thanks a bunch, got a zetec engine a couple years newer for $900 with 81 000km's on it just missing the alternator. Now I am just running into getting all the wiring figured out as my 01 engine wiring clips are of a diffferent shape then the 03.
thanks again!

Just take all the wiring that was on your old engine and move it over to the new one. You aren't going to be able to use the 03 wiring.

Got all the wiring switched over, not as bad as I thought it would be fortunatly. Now just a waiting game to get my clutch kit in to remount the transmission case and then drop in the engine and see how she goes!

So it definitly isn't quite as easy as said! Got the transmission all put back together and mounted on the engine, then dropped it into the car but still no sign of a working car. I temporarily plugged the battery on it and not even a light turned on in the dash. Back to the drawing board I guess. :(
