Hoping to get some advice. My work is having a talent show and asked me to take some photos of it. I figured why not instead of working I can watch the show and get paid. I have a 18-55,12-24, and 55-200. I have a nikon d3100 so not the top of the line dslr. Can anyone recommend a good lens I was going to rent one from photo rental source.
So out of those which would work best for me?? Still learning the dslr

Now, this all depends:
- on when the talent show is
- whether it's an outside talent show or inside
- if the event will be lit and how well
- And where they would put you
If it's an indoor talent show at night with only a single spot light ... I would recommend a good fast lens like a 2.8 or less lens.
When I did a talent show once, the 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 were great. If you want some good zoom ... the 24-70 2.8 is a great lens.
I also would recommend sticking to Nikon. I have become a great believer of going with the main manufacturer lenses as of late because of some recent events I have had issues with on off-brand lenses.

17-55 is good, hope you are gonna be relatively close.
i would have gone with the 24-70...it's hard to know without knowing the setting and what the stage and stuff looks like...
