: To The Shop... AGIAN!

Well yea, i just got my SVT back 1200 miles ago, and its already began to knock agian. u can clearly hear metal tapping inside the engine. its LOUD. i noticed it when i filled up at chevron yesturday. didnt make any realbad sounds, cept the minor tick its ALWAYS made (not injector pulse) since i got it. Well right after i filled up, i turned it over, it started, revved itself to 2200 and sat there for a sec knocking loudly. then the RPMs dipped down to about 600 and bounced 3 times, before moving back up to the 800RPM idling point. now it sounds HORRIBLE! i havent got on it ANY sense i got it back. its been in the shop 9 times because of the ticking, and they have replaced everything except the pistons and the rods. including camshafts...and cam gears. literally everything. head, individual valves, valvesprings, lifters, intake manifold, entire exhuast, entire intake system (plastic tube, and airbox, and filter .etc), and cam positioning sensor, Even clutch and flywheel (said it was causing it,and charged us $1300). im sure im due for a lemon, but it takes up to 60 days... and u cannot drive ur car while waiting (no rental either). anyone have any ideas of what the problem with my car could be? Anyone??? Any feedback would be greatly apreciated. I love my SVTF and want it to be fixed!

They should totally give you a loaner if it's still under warranty. That's bogus. Good luck. Mine's in for a ticking/clicking sound right now, too. I'm starting to get nervous...

yeah, you should get a loner car for free...........

ticking/clicking sounds are common in SVT's, at least on this message board.
I would be real interested to see if you are actually getting the octane level you think you are buying. They had some scam in the SE Michigan area several years ago where they nailed gas station owners blending higher and lower octane fuels and then selling them as the higher octane rating. Greedy bastards!

well its more then a ticking. i got a stethascope on it earlier, it ticks from the tranny, the block, and the head. block/head ticking is the same thing im sure, but the tranny... hmm got me thinking. The car runs SHITTY, like trys to miss-fire all the way threw revves. The exhuast pops ALOT more then it used to, like if it had an exhuast leak (they just changed it!). i kno the SVT has a open exhuast which is why it pops, but its never done it this much. u can hear something tapping, but when u rev it up it speeds up till about 3000-3500 rpm, then the sound of the motor drowns it out. it speeds up, as the engine speeds up. the tranny, i just hear at idle. it speeds up a littlebit before disapearing at like 1500 rpm. i can tell the injector pulse sound, from these sounds. its nowhere at all the same. and the loaner car thing. we have to send in the paperwork, which takes up to 60 days before they even look at it. cannot drive car, it must sit. no loaner, atleast until the paperwork gets there. 2 months with no car... i cannot do. im probley just putting my car back in the shop AGIAN, and see if they will just put in a new motor! zslaton, i would not be suprised, because it didnt start REAL LOUD, until i filled up at the Chevron. 93 with techron. It gets worse everytime i drive the car...
Thanks for the replys. anything else would be nice.

what paper work do you have to send in? Who has to look at it? You have an SVT, you should get a free loaner car, no problem, no paperwork, etc........did you call SVT yet?

The pages are forms for the Texas Lemon Law, given to us by Ford last time my car went into the shop. weve talked to SVT, and Ford. we have to send in the pages, to be reveiwed, then SVT will send someone down to take a look at the car, paperwork, receipts, .etc to see if its classified a Lemon. No loaner given, atleast until the receive the paperwork (the 60 day wait)

Engine block/head ticking is usually associated with valvetrain/head or exhaust. If it's exhaust, you'll usually smell & feel it (don't get burnt!) around the headers.
Thumping usually indicates spun bearings, rods, etc.. Source is usually low in the engine block.
Knocking/pinging usually indicates detonation.
I usually start with a compression check, (better yet leak down test) to make sure compression and internals are good. It's a good sanity check on the short block. But your symptoms: poor idle, erratic rpms, backfiring in the intake and exhaust? Sounds like either the computer, catalytic converters or MAF. I'm suprise the dealer did't hook up a datalogger and see what the sensors are reading--which would say a lot. Good luck.

A stethoscope?? Haha, I was trained to use a Long screw driver, the noise transfers through metal better and it's much clearer. You'd be surprised.
Take a long screw driver. Put the tip to the engine in whatever area you believe the sound to be coming from. Put your ear to the handle, LITERALLY PUT IT TO THE HANDLE. Try it, it's very effective.
