: Hey, new member here, need some advice

Hey all, I'm new to the Focus scene. I own a '96 Mustang GT with a few mods, but I've been eyeing the new Focus' lately. (Especially the SVT) I plan on sellin my GT for a Focus as soon as it gets 100k miles on it. I was just wondering, how much would a used SVT cost, and is it worth the extra cash over the plain 'ol Zetec? And how is the aftermarket for the Zetec engine? And what kind of horsepower is available from the car, and how fast can they go in the 1/4?
But alot of guys think the Focus is ugly, and that its a "chick" car, but I personally love its edgy european looks. I also love the cool interior, and the interior is of alot better quality than my GT. Call me crazy, (everyone does) but probably my favorite body style of focus is the wagon. :D I think a lowered focus wagon with 17 inch rims and subs filling the hatch just looks killer. Although the 3 door hatch comes in a close second.
Anyways, thanks for your help guys! [thumb]

Alot of aftermarket parts for the zetec, not alot for the SVT. The zetec produces 130 hp at the flywheel but produces around 105 wheel horse power. As for the cost of a used SVT, I'm not sure, best bet is to go around to dealers and check for yourself. The SVT is just a modified zetec from the factory, thats all it is, a zetec basically modified.

Here are just a few places you can get parts, just to give you an idea:
You should be able to get a take on a what is available, there is a huge list in the Information Archive forum...

don't even bother with the SVT IMO. just go for a wagon or ZX3 because the aftermarket is strong and they have a lot of potential. just make sure that if you get the wagon, get a Zetec. btw, welcome buddy.

I agree that you should go with a wagon or a ZX3 (or a ZX5 if you like those.) SVT's are sweet but I really don't think that there is much you can find out there for it like the Zetec. Plus there also might not be too many used SVTF out there.

I test drove a Sonic Blue SVT Downright beautiful car. The problem with the SVT is that it is a built hot rod already. The aftermarket is slow for the SVT compared to the Zetec because fo this. It all comes down to what you like. Either you like to work on your car (Zetec) or just be happy with the way it is (SVT). Just to let you know I got a Black ZX3. Love to drive it a ton more than my mustang and a lot of fun to modify too !!

I think I may just get a zx3 though, as they also tend to be cheaper than the wagons. Another problem with the wagon is about 95% of them are automatics. I hear there is some turbo kits emerging for Focus. Anybody know about these and how they work on the car?

Oh you can get a wagon in a 5 speed. A member on this board has one (viney266) and he had to wait a long time to get it. I'm not too sure if there is anyone else that has one.

The best Turbo kit to get without a doubt is Tom's turbo at focus-power.com. I have heard nothing but praise about this kit from everyone on here. If you are looking to supercharge it then you can either go with Jackson Racing or get a name I am sure you are familiar with being you had a mustang Vortech.
Also all the websites mentioned above are great resources for parts. My preference is Steeda since I love the way their Focus is put together. Yah I know it is all rebadged parts and higher price but thier service is tremendous and they support the Focus very well I think.

Hi, welcome to the board, I'm the guy with the wagon with the 5 speed. I was looking originally for a 93-96 honda accord wagon with a stick ..gave up after six months of looking, then I found the focus, same thing, gave up on a used one..I bought a new one and waited about 6 weeks to get it. A couple of good things, the 5 speed in the wagon is good for a credit of over $800 on the price of the car, yes, they reduce the price whenn you order a 5 speed. Also, the wagon's wheelbase is the same as the other cars, so it handles pretty good. I will put 17's on mine in the spring, she has 16's now, get the sport package from the dealer with the tach its not that expensive and it comes with a few other nice things ( the 16" wheels for one), any way, the car excibits afair amount of understeer , but it handles pretty good... I am really happy with mine and the ford financing is killer right now..also, check out the forced induction section, we have all been discussing the turbos and blowers to death
Any questions just pm me if you like or post them here and I'll try to answer them, there's another few guys on here with wagons as well[thumb]

Hey there and welcome!! I'm sure that you'll love the Focus when you finally get one. Now, as far as pricing for the SVT, or any foci for that matter, we have a lot of them on the website that I work for...not trying to plug the site and I'm not telling you to buy any of them...but I can recommend you check out the site and look at the pricing that way you can get an idea of how much what you want is gonna run you.
http://www.thebiglot.com or http://www.autohopper.com
check it out...and it tells you a lot about the cars and feel free to pm me if you have any questions about any of them, I can check into it.
Also, what part of VA are you in? I'm in Southwestern VA, if you're familiar with Shelor, that's where I got my Focus and they're having a killer sale on the 03 foci right now, you could trade in your Mustang...just an idea.

i work for ford in sales...
we recently had a used svt come in and it sold for about $15,500
also, as far as a 5speed in a wagon, they are few and far between. i dunno about everywhere but here in cali it is hard to find a 5speed period
i have had all three motors the pzev, the zetec and now the svt
i would probably rank the svt first (because of the interior, 6speed gear box, etc) the pzev second and the zetec third
good luck on your investment[thumb]

I found an '02 SVTF with 12,000 miles on it for $12,000 at http://www.autotrader.com. If you are going to build a car get a ZX3. If you are going to get an air intake and cheap stuff get an SVT.
