I have been informed that I will be making a road trip this weekend to my sons farm, and we will be bringing our two dogs (smallish -- A terror-ior and a dachshund). I need to provide a non-slip (or less slippery) surface in the back of the hatch for them (they cannot get a grip on the OEM 'carpet' back there). Preferably from some normal household item. I did think of a blanket, but there is really no way to 'tuck it in' so it would just get balled up and be more of a problem I would think. This is somewhat of a rare event (bringing the dogs) so I did not really want to spend a ton of money. Suggestions? [cheers]

Rubber matt. That will help if they get a bit nervous on the ride and answer the call of nature, as well.

I've travelled with mine in his dog crate before, not much of a car dog though. Or if i have a passenge he'll sit on their lap (4lb dog)
I had to take my brothers' west highland/poodle mix and his shitzu in the car a few times, the westie had no problem in the rear hatch area with the seats all the way down (didnt want her on the seats!) If she had her way, she would be riding shotgun. The shitzhu just kept trying to jump over into the front seats the whole time but normally settles down and sleeps)
Do you have a rug or some carpet remnants to put back there? Anything will be more plush/grippy than the factory stuff

Where would I get a rubber mat that big? But agree, that would work.

Unfortunately no. Or at least, nothing that large (I do have a bath mat with rubber backing). Wait! That maybe is a really good solution. I would not think several bath mats would cost that much. I will check. Thanks!

No, I have a hatch. Please re-read orig post.

Yes! We have a monster sized dog bed. Good thought! It won't cover the whole area, but a good portion of it.
