: Just installed my fswerks xcal 3 with 93 octane tune
crice8 08-11-2011, 08:22 PM just installed the tune with the xcal 3 from fswerks. had the aggressive shift points added. i can tell a difference but its not totally devastating... i guess i was just over amping it up and got too excited... car is definitely a little faster but i don't know... does it take time for the tune to truly affect? also im running wheels that are 22lbs each(getting new ones asap) would this be killing my performance? also have fswerks cai and a custom exhaust. looking to put on the f2 header next week will that make a drastic improvement also?
milkweed 08-11-2011, 09:07 PM i dunno about the fswerks tune, since i don't have a tune yet but that will be my next mod. but i can tell you that if each of your rims weigh 22lbs, then the weight is parasitic on performance i used to have some 18" motegi rims that weighed 22lbs each. and i noticed as soon as i put them on that they killed my acceleration. needless to say i put my stock 15" rims back on for the time being. and immediately noticed improved acceleration. i will be getting some 15" rota slipstreams , which are supposedly only 12lbs per rim. as the stocks are roughly 15lbs. so yes the rims can effect your performance, i dunno about the header since i don't have one yet. but from what i have read it also improves performance.
1turbofocus 08-11-2011, 09:14 PM Have your "tuner" change the settings for you on the trans , send him some datalogs so he can fine tune your tune and make sure everything is like it should be , its what you paid for

pasta 08-28-2011, 03:59 PM any added weight will affect performance for every 100 lbs is a tenth of a second
caterham 7 08-29-2011, 08:33 AM After trying several different tunes,Haltec, MBE and one stand alone from south africa,we went with Tom now on 10+ cars and just won for the second year in a row the SWD SCCA EP Championship including one track record that most thought would never fall! I am sure the other tuners on this site are good but Tom is the best.
03OrangeSVT 08-30-2011, 09:30 AM Whats killing you is you have a Focus with an automatic tranny in it.... unless you spend a healthy sum of money its always gonna be slow.
crice8 08-30-2011, 12:25 PM I can understand what your saying, but from what ive gathered from multiple sites is that a tune is much more beneficial to an auto trans that a manual. Also heres an update to the thread. When i took off the 18"msr wheels and put on my new set of 16" rota slipstreams even with massive 205/60/16 tires its like a whole new car!! Its definately faster now. The tune most definately made a huge difference. when it shifts you can really feel the pull every gear! Im getting a Fswerks header and flexpipe this week and ill have to order a new tune which will be adjusted for the header and for the new tire size(= Can't wait to see what this bad boy will do then. Ive seen someone gain 16HP with dynos to prove it from adding the fs header and flexpipe.

Who has 93 octane? I'm still waiting on my F/W header & stealth muffler. Let us know how it run's w/ the header, huh.
crice8 08-31-2011, 09:14 AM What do you mean who has 93 octane?
felixthecat 09-07-2011, 10:27 AM What do you mean who has 93 octane?
I have a 91 octane tune, cause I don't know who has 93 octane in my area. All I found was 92.
crice8 09-07-2011, 10:49 AM Fswerks does 92, 93, 94 and even race fuel if you wanted them to man. And in my opinion randy does the best tunes out there via my research

I already have 1 of Randy's tune's for 91 octane. He also has a 93 octane tune. All I have found alround my area is 92 octane fuel. I was asking who has 93 octane fuel for your 93 octane tune? I'm waiting on their header, flex, & a stealth muffler.
crice8 09-08-2011, 06:27 PM O sorry I misunderstood you. Tons of places here in east Texas have 93 octane. Any shell or Exxon has 93 octane and they both have very good gas. Even the Walmart here in Tyler has 93 which is where I've been recently getting gas because its 10 cents off a gallon right now(=
X!FOCUS 09-08-2011, 06:29 PM 93 octane is premium gas down here. You get it at pretty much any gas station.
CJohn364 09-08-2011, 07:42 PM I know when I was running my CAI/Header/Exhaust the tune (same one you got) added about 20 whp and made a hell of a difference. You'll also notice *cough* on the track *cough* that the governor has been removed. The ATX will lose a larger percentage of power unless you have an aftermarket tranny that the MTX due to the torque converter

yup i see your in texas too. i wonder where he is that 93 is hard to find????
Focusalaska 09-09-2011, 02:52 AM yup i see your in texas too. i wonder where he is that 93 is hard to find????
Here in Alaska I am only able to find 90oct, and yes that is premium. But also up here I only show average intake temp of about 105° while idling, 68-74° while cruising.

Have to disagree with You Bud.
My project budget build is starting to run pretty darn strong, even with the atx trans.
Just installed my tune from Tom and the Car is starting to be pretty quick.
Once the Nitrous is installed next month and the tune re adjusted I think its going to be very quick from light to light or at the track.
Its been a bit of money, but not a healthy sum to get it where its at now.
Hers a quick vid of where it is today, having just installed the tune.
Its set for 93 octane, but I still have the remains of 87 octane only in the tank.
Going to refill with 93 tomorrow.
I was not speeding in this video.

My mods are in the description on Youtube.
Tom tuned it and I cannot believe the difference it has made.
The look on my face when it chirped the tires....
[giddy]
Pretty crazy,right?
Nitrous is getting installed next Month....I cant freakin wait!
crice8 09-12-2011, 07:30 PM what size tires are you running? and what wheels?
DueceCoupe 09-12-2011, 09:33 PM what size tires are you running? and what wheels?
Stock factory zx3 rims with firestones.
Also Me like a goofball was still running 87 octane in the tank when I shot tyhe video.
Filled with 93 octane today and wow....Another stunning improvement!
crice8 09-12-2011, 09:40 PM what is the stock tire size?
DueceCoupe 09-13-2011, 08:57 AM what is the stock tire size?
205/50/16
Pretty squat tire.
crice8 09-13-2011, 09:04 AM see when i got my rotas a few weeks ago i went and got 60,000 mile warranty falken performance tires put on them. they are 205/60/16

I don't think its your tires, reading some of Toms other posts I think the shift pressure for your tune isn't as high as mine might be.
My shifts will just about give you whiplash....I Love it!
crice8 09-13-2011, 01:05 PM See I'd love that I'm just worried about having transmission issues from it in the future.....

Firmer is going to be better than softer shifts.
Will,keep you updated on mine.

Just saw your in Alvin. I work at the Home Depot there. Be cool to see your car sometime.

FSwerk's doesn't offer a 92 octane tune, on their order site= 91,93,94 for their 1st tune. What would I have to do to get a 92 octane tune? Or is it worth it? Does any one know what global spark is compared to the spark advance? And does running their header & exhaust do anything or change for a flash? I ordered the flasher/header & exhaust at the same time, would the make adjustment for a freer flowing exhaust?
1turbofocus 10-09-2011, 07:31 PM I offer a 92 tune and with tuning from me you get FREE tune updates so no worry about cost for new tunes for new mods

This is truly a great deal. i have paid an additional $35x3 for tunes to tweak my shift firmness and to have my 2nd 02 sensor turned off. plus i paid 399 initially for my tuner
crice8 10-10-2011, 07:46 AM Hey Tom, How much do you charge for nitrous tuning again? i just wanna hit the focus with a 50 shot cause im on stock internals(=

Your kidding me ? thats $105.00 for tune updats + the 399.00 I thought fs charged 379.00 shipped ?
So you have now paid 504.00 for your NA tune ?
At least you had the balls to post that , good for you
I charge 250.00 for a Nitrous tune and you get FREE NA and Nitrous tunes so you will not be paying any more for NA tuning if you choose me for tuning

my apologies it was $379 lol but still! so i have 484 invested in my na tune.......
Randori 10-10-2011, 03:17 PM my apologies it was $379 lol but still! so i have 484 invested in my na tune.......
I was in the same palce as you.
I bought 2 "updates" from fswerks, and those updates were not even taking datalogs into consideration. When I mentioned that I ported my IM for my throttle body, Randy told me that that was stepping into the area of "Custom Tuning" and that he has an hourly rate and could cost close to $600 by the time it was done... He also told me that he was busy and wouldn't recomend going through the work for a NA motor.
I bought Tom's tune and, while I have been having a lot of trouble with MY PC and Xcal, he is a great tuner and has been very helpful.
crice8 10-13-2011, 09:59 PM OK Tom, and anyone else who honestly knows and isnt just guessing. With my current tune would i cause damage or problems by running a 50 shot of nos? ive been wanting to run a nos kit for a while and ive got a good deal on one. im just scared ill blow my motor because of my 93 octane tune i currently have. What do you suggest?
1turbofocus 10-14-2011, 09:55 AM My opinion is you need a tune , more then you have more timing now then you had stock and a 50 shot requires - 1-2 deg of timing per 50 shot
Tom
crice8 10-14-2011, 12:27 PM ok thanks Tom! your always super helpful!
