Anyone know of a easy hood light? Im thinking something self powered with a mercury switch that comes on when the hood is up?
Not looking for glow lights for show but more of a light for checking oil, fluid levels and such.
I was going to build something using parts off e-bay and just wire everything up how i want but i thought ide check and see if something was already put together?
A self powered magnetic one or something?

do one easier and install 1-2 bulby types with a simple on/off switch.

could also just add a hood pin switch. you can get basic ones for like $1 or less

something like this would probably look nice and a SMD led strip to light it up.
probably never know its there till you open at night and the bay lights up white

I was wanting to get rid of the extra wires if i could.

how many extra wires did you have? should only be 2, 12v and ground.
12v->fuse->battery
ground -> hood switch
doesn't look too cheesy, were would you mount 2 bulb holders and bulbs? (more wires involved in this)

the wire running from the switch up to the LEDs i wanted to maybe get rid of.
When you buy the LED strips from walmart they have this little push button switch to test and see how they look at the store. It has this little pack of button batterys shrink wrapped to power them on the shelf.
I just used that and tucked it up under that plate where the switch is for now. So its self powered but there is still the wire hanging on the hood that looks messy IMO.
I guess maybe i could of done a better job of running the wire. lol

how often do you check levels in the dark though?
for the wires i don't see a way around it unless you attach the pin to the hood and put the light right beside it and hide the battery pack thing behind it.
