: Cams + Chip
SVT ewx ca 09-30-2004, 04:38 PM Anyone have a update on that CAM/Chip Package specifically for the svt focus?
Wasn't it supposed to be here September 2004?~!
Lets get on this![V]

biketcher 09-30-2004, 07:49 PM FocusSport has pushed back the release of their Superchips Chip at least twice this year and it appears it will happen again - their site says they will release the chip in September and tomorrow it is...October. Therefore, they have pushed it back. Again. This better be worth waiting for... I have been waiting since February, when I bought my SVTF ZX5.
Rumor is that the actual release will be late October or late November. At this point, I have trouble believing anything regarding this chip.
Can't completely blame FocusSport, though - when I talked to a FocusSport rep in July they said they were waiting on Superchips to finish development of the chip. Apparently, products for a low production car like the SVTF are a low priority. Doesn't make me feel better, though.
As far as a cam/chip package, FocusSport/Superchips seems to offer some degree of general customization (i.e. you specify settings for variable valve timing adjustability, fuel pressure or supply adjustability, etc.) and I think they sell cams, so I guess you could purchase cams and, with their suggestions, find chip tuning options that would exploit your new cams.
IF THE CHIP EXISTED.
SVT ewx ca 09-30-2004, 08:16 PM hahaha I Know how you feel They told me before summer it would be there in a week or so, but again, I dont think its focus sports problem just stupid manufac.'s that don't think there is a large enough market to put a rush on svtf performance (ha.....ha).
I bet when it does come out, it will be a incredible improvement (close to hp jrsc could give you, probably because the tuning of jrsc works, but doesnt perform)
Anyone else have any insider insight?
biketcher 09-30-2004, 09:11 PM I'm thinking at most 300 whp...
HA! I KILL ME!
Seriously, maybe -- MAYBE 10 hp. The chip makes up for it in options, though and peak hp isn't really the big deal here - more important to most people is responsiveness, low rpm performance, mileage (yes, oftentimes chips improve mileage), and other stuff that isn't sexy in advertisements. BIG LOW-RPM PERFORMANCE!!! -- AWE-INSPIRING MILEAGE!!!
If peak hp is your goal, I'm thinking:
1. High-Flow Air filter (you may be wasting your money on those big, fancy, shiny tubes with a cone on the end)
2. Definitely exhaust - drop the cat - if it's semi-legal where you are. There is an excellent cat replacement that my coworker got for his SVTF ZX5 that sounds great and, according to him, feels more powerful at higher speeds/revs (even capped off by the stock muffler)
3. Throttle body (Focus Central makes one, but opinions vary on its quality).
Cams, to me anyway, have always seemed like a last resort if you're tuning for street performance.
If you want a Supercharger, my opinion is that Vortech is a better value for the money. If you get the non-"tuner kit" you get an "engine management" tuning of some sort - a chip, I guess. Anyway, the tuner kit offers less hp.

crazymechanic 10-01-2004, 07:35 AM Diablosport was supposed to release a Predator tuner back in july, but it's been pushed back too. word I hear is that they still haven't even started it yet. it's supposed to cost around $400 or so, if it ever comes out
2002svtf 10-01-2004, 09:55 AM Tom at focus-power.com can bench flash ecu. I have heard that there is a peak hp increase of about 7hp, but there is as much as a 15hp increase though out the power band. Plus the car idles better. Again this just what I have heard.
biketcher 10-01-2004, 05:44 PM Funny you should mention idling and flashing ECUs - I'm taking my svt back to the dealer for the 2nd time so that they can determine why my idling sucks (especially with max air on - my dash shakes), why I have a "surge" (feels like a lean surge) at steady speeds, why my interior/gauge lights flicker at idle, and why the engine sputters and nearly dies when approaching a stop (intermittently). According to everything I have read about the updated ECU flash, these symptoms should have been addressed by it. I had the first flash done in February. I believe that the initial one wasn't done correctly and, thus, did not "take".
But I suppose this is an issue for another thread...
SVT ewx ca 10-01-2004, 07:19 PM my car almost stops too but i dont think it has yet, only when ac is on and you come to a quick start and rpms drift like [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]

XitTriq 10-01-2004, 11:08 PM Yeah, I am starting to believe the SCT is a hoax. Just something that will reel people into their website. I am not buying anything from them until I see those things. Even when they debut, who says they will be instock!!!? Getting quite pissed, they wouldnt even reply to an email I had. Oh it must cost too much money to have someone read a couple emails and press a few keys. and my email wasnt even reguarding the chip tuner or anything.
SVT ewx ca 10-02-2004, 12:13 AM What was it reguarding then?! lol

The tuner kit makes the same power as the tuned kit, it just doesn't include fuel injectors or tuning. If you buy the same 55# injectors and Diablo Predator used in their kit, you'll make the same power. If you getter a better SCT tune and get larger injectors, there is room to make more power....which is why I bought the tuner kit.
