: LED Headlights
BroncoStorm 06-24-2011, 11:53 PM Hello everyone!!
I am new to the forums, and was trying to get a little bit more info on my car.
I have a 2010 Focus SES model, and i was planning on getting some LED's for my headlights and my foglights.
I have searched around places but cant seem to find what exactly i need to be able to install those. I was just wondering if there was a kit or something i needed to be able to use the LED's or i have to install.
If anyone knows, can you please help me, i would appreciate it.
rustyjetta 06-24-2011, 11:55 PM i think you mean HID
BroncoStorm 06-25-2011, 12:01 AM Yup that what i meant my bad.
You know anything about them?
Red Jay 918 06-25-2011, 02:04 AM i believe they have HID bulbs. then as for headlamps they have projector style headlamps. idk where to get them from though.
2011 SE 06-25-2011, 08:19 AM So here's the scoop.
Your current headlight assembly is a reflector style, as opposed to a projector style. It's made for bulbs the same length as halogens. HIDs, or xenon bulbs, are longer. This means that if they're put inside a reflector housing, they throw light incorrectly. This is why nearly everyone that puts HIDs in stock housings will be blinding everyone in front of them. The housings weren't designed to handle HIDs, and will draw quite a bit of anger from anyone in front of you. The only solution would be to aim your headlights low enough that it doesn't blind anyone, but then you've pretty much got your lights aimed 10 feet in front of you, which makes them useless.
That said, you'll want to pick up projector housings. Unless you manually take apart an OEM headlight and install a projector, the only option you have available will be the ones that look like this: Eagle Eyes Projector Headlights (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p2042998.m1253&item=290552820533&viewitem=#ht_8640wt_1165). So far that is the only manufacturer that makes projectors for our second gen cars. As a bonus, however, you get some LEDS underneath, and some halos. Nearly everyone that has a set loves them, including me.
Once you get those, there is a thread which explains how to install them (nearly completely plug-and-play). If you want HIDs, the least expensive option will be DDM Tuning HID Slim Ballasts (http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DDM-HID-Kit-Slim-Ballast-35W-or-55W). The bulb size for the above projectors is H9, and the install is relatively simple (DDM Tuning has instructions posted on their website under Service). You hook everything up between the projector plug and the bulb. But if you get to that point, feel free to ask questions.
I think that covers everything. Let me know if I can be of any more help!
Here are a couple pictures of how those headlights look on my 2011 SE:

crice8 06-25-2011, 10:44 PM ok 2011 se you basically have the exact look im going for on my 2010 se sedan. mine is sterling gray though but im wanting to go with a shiny black grill and dark headlights. what grill is that? the stock coupe one isnt shiny. i also have a autobot emblem overlay on my car haha
BroncoStorm 06-25-2011, 11:21 PM Oh ok i got ya 2011 SE, that would make sense about the reflector style. Thanks for helping me and giving me advise on where to go to learn how to install the lights. I like your eagle eye lights for sure, i may just have to get me some of those. They come in blue right? Because i know yours are white. Also one more question 2011 SE, do you know anything about the foglights? I was thinking about getting those done to my car as well.

My grill is just the stock chrome grill, but painted gloss black with some factory match touch up paint from Autozone.

It's interesting that you mention that they come in blue. Every picture I've seen only comes in white, but sellers claim the color temperature on some units is 7000K. I'm not sure, to be honest. I suppose it's possible that you can get them with blue tinted lights, but I just haven't seen a picture of it yet.
As for the fog lights, I know a lot of people on here have put HIDs in there. I know there exist some projector-style fog lights, but in THAT area I am unskilled. My car didn't come with fogs :(
Though I remember someone posting some SICK projector fogs with halos on them. I would LOVE to see how the halo headlights would look with the halo fogs.
