Anybody have any hints as to why when im driving right after 2k rpm the car starts hesitating kinda just a little spit sput till it shifts a little after 3k rpm but only when driving normal if i hammer on it it does not cut out at all. i changed the plugs and just did the feul filter today still does it. Am I lookin at a serious problem or could it be anything to do with ignition at all im lost lol[:(!]

[welcome], David! Let's begin by gathering a bit more information.

How much mileage on your car? Does the problem occur when the engine is still warming up or when fully warm, or both? What gasoline brand do you use and, if you use more than one, is the problem worse with one brand? Have you done the throttle body ground modification? (Search the forum for the how-to sticky on the "big 3" grounding mod if you don't know what this is.) Have you had your dealer read your diagnostic codes (or done it yourself with an OBD II diagnostic meter)?

With a bit more information to work with, I'm pretty sure someone here with experience of the problem you describe might recognize what is going on with your car and chime in with suggestions.

I had this kind of problem with my 1997 Escort, and the problem was two-fold. Partially due to a VERY dirty Mass Airflow Sensor and an old/faulty oxygen sensor. I went through all the steps you did, and it ended up taking me a year to FINALLY figure out.

I had done the following to try and fix it:

1) Replaced air filter
2) Replaced fuel filter
3) Tried different gas stations and different octanes
4) Used fuel injector cleaner
5) Checked for vacuum leaks
6) Replaced spark plugs
7) Replaced spark plug wires
8) Checked distributor cap for cracks/damage
9) Cleaned Mass Airflow Sensor
10) Replaced upstream oxygen sensor

But luckily ChrissyL has asked you some very important questions that will hopefully help you out LONG before you spend as much time/money as I did to fix the problem. But I will admit that I LOVE troubleshooting. It's a great feeling once you finally figure it out :)

The car has a little over 75k it does it all the time but considerably worse when at operating temp all brands of gas seem to make it do it and i ran the obdII test no codes came up and I have not done the throttle body ground mod. Is thier more than one oh2 sensor or just the one on the manifold??? Thanx!!

mine was/is hesitating badly. It basically felt like I couldnt give my car gas. It almost felt like it was going to stall.

I ended up throwing a code last week. My throttle position sensor is going slowly but surely. I actually just bought a new TB from Steve, hopefully that does the trick

I've been trying to get my hands on a repair guide for a while...but no luck yet. So I'm not 100% sure whether or not there is one or two, but even if there were two, the one on the exhaust manifold would be the troublemaker. The downstream one would only be checking emissions. The upstream sensor on the manifold would be checking the fuel/air mixture, which could potentially cause hesitation/a rich fuel mixture.

I'm guessing it's not the oxygen sensor, simply because the car would probably be bucking/stuttering due to a rich fuel/air mixture.

It would also throw a code if it was the O2 sensor.

I would actually start by checking to see if your Mass Airflow Sensor needs to be cleaned with some MAF cleaner. If you check it out and it looks dirty, I would NOT recommend using anything other than a cleaner specifically made for that purpose, as many sprays will leave a residue on the sensor, which can eventually/immediately damage it.

And let me tell you, those tiny little filaments are wildly expensive to replace...at least it would have been for my 97 Escort.
