: Can you put a 2.3L into a '08 body.
Kooky 06-20-2011, 07:41 PM Hey guy's, I've been trying to find out the answer for a while and I don't see why not? I searched on here but couldn't find anything, has anyone done it? Can it even be done? Is it a pretty straight forward bolt in, or is there a lot of modification? I would like to start there, if it is going to be too much work than I will go through with my original plan to put a turbo system on the 2.0L. Just trying to get some research done before I take on this project.
Thanks for your help and advice.

Outlaw5.0 06-20-2011, 09:09 PM There are a few threads on the 2.3 swap if you do a search, but it seems none have gone thru with the swap. The turbo for sure would be a much larger power gain. Now the 2.3 and a turbo kit could be interesting.

That is what I would like to do. But to be honest, I don't want to get into this with time and money, and find out it won't work without a lot of modifications. Ya know? Not when I can just get the parts for the 2.0L. Although from the research without redoing the insides so I can push past 11 PSI I'm only going to be looking at around 220 HP max. And personally I would like to hit 300.
qdo44681 06-20-2011, 10:01 PM I think you would be better off just building the 2.0 you already have in the car. You would have to do internals on the 2.3 if you want that much power with a turbo kit. so i would just stick with the 2.0, but do whatever you think is best. It is you car and your money after all.
DEMENTED SVTF 06-20-2011, 10:30 PM Its about a 30-40whp difference between a stock 2.0 and 2.3 running a fswerks stage 2 kit. But if ur gunna build a motor for boost why not a 2.3 right!
DEMENTED SVTF 06-20-2011, 10:34 PM I've taken a ride in a 2.0 fswerks stage 2 car it did 225hp and 224 tq and it was Damn fast man. Another local member was taking new ss camaros with his 2.0 stg. 2.

True, but one of them is limited. Lol
And I although I have my fair share of vehicle knowledge, most of it pertains to diesels and larger trucks/heavy equipment, so I'd rather listen to the experts here!

Interesting, I think that is what I will do then, thanks guy's.
I imagine I'll have plenty more questions before I start, and will of course post the project.
Thanks again,

ChrissyL 06-21-2011, 05:41 PM To answer the OP's question, the 2.0 to 2.3 swap with turbo conversion can be done with our '08-'11 models. You might want to send a PM to 1turbofocus (Tom), as he has done the swap you're interested in. Professionally.

Will do, thank you.
fusi0n 06-22-2011, 12:42 AM Do it in 2 parts: turbo now with max boost for D20 stock internals (11psi?), then swap in a built D23 & retune
PSUrivie 06-22-2011, 06:22 AM I've seen dyno numbers of the 2.0 FSW stage 2 in the 230's. I boosted mine and it has some nutz. I was looking into the 2.3 swap also. There is a thread about it. I'll find it and post it for you.
PSUrivie 06-22-2011, 06:32 AM Check post #9. Might wanna PM that guy [thumb]

Kooky 06-22-2011, 09:54 PM ^ Thanks
badazz2010focus 07-04-2011, 08:07 AM arent the cam sensors and stuff different and the deck height is to high on the 2.3 so therefore you'd have to put a cowl hood on the 08-11 which i dont think they make
save_HUTCH 07-04-2011, 01:09 PM You can out the 2.3 into the 08+. FSWerks has done it one or two times I believe.
st12131 07-04-2011, 09:33 PM What about the 175-horse 2.5L out of the newer Ford fusions? If it works then why not, your doing the work anyway.
Outlaw5.0 07-09-2011, 04:27 PM What about the 175-horse 2.5L out of the newer Ford fusions? If it works then why not, your doing the work anyway. It has VCT, so the computer would be the issue. You may be able to machine the 2.0L cams to fit the 2.5L head. The VCT oil passages would need to be plugged also. The 2.3 or 2.5 would really wake up the automatic cars.

Maybe some aftermarket cams/gears and some programming to disable it? Then you might be closer to 200hp. [thumb]
st12131 07-09-2011, 05:10 PM From what I can find online, the 2.5L is an upgraded 2.3L. bore was upgraded 1.5mm and stroke was increased 6mm. 89mm bore and 100mm stroke, sounds like a great short block to start a strong engine build.
Lappracing 07-10-2011, 12:50 AM Nobody makes aftermarket cams that will work with the '08+ Focus. You have to use stock.
kylesvt720 07-20-2011, 08:49 PM I always thought swapping a 2.5L out of a fusion into a focus would be cool 175hp stock with good torque. Easily make good N/A power, not sure why they haven't done it previously. I think the 2012 Focus should have the 2.0, the 2.5 for a sport model, then the ST that's coming out, with the 2.0 ecoboost, would be a solid setup.
