I guess I'll start out with a question.
Think you can explain shutter speed to me? I know its pretty noobish but I've heard many different things.
Thanks!

lyonsroar 06-06-2011, 04:39 PM Shutter speed is the amount of time the image sensor is exposed to light.
tukaniSVT 06-06-2011, 04:54 PM ^^ Yup.
How long it takes your shutter to take a shot. Think of the shutter like blinking, starting with your eyes close.
Hold your blink and you get in more light. Blink open then close quickly, least amount of light you get to see your shot.

WiscoGTI 06-06-2011, 07:10 PM I like that first shot from the 2nd shoot.
In my opinion, you tend to shoot your subject too far away. It worked pretty well with the 3rd shot of the 3rd shoot. But the one before it doesn't work so well for me. Just my 2 Abraham Lincolns..

Very true. I guess its just part of my style of how I like to see a photo. Gonna be doing another shoot here pretty soon so I'll DEF. be trying some closer shots.

YellowJellyBean 06-06-2011, 11:39 PM I'll tell you the same thing I tell everyone getting started in DSLR photography. Read Bryan Peterson's Understanding Exposure. It's a great book, easy to read, and not expensive at all (like $15 on Amazon). It explains everything having to do with getting the creatively correct exposure every time in terms that you don't have to be a pro photographer to understand.
What lens are you using? 14-45mm?

Ah yes, I have the same 14-42 mm kit lens. It's a nice light starter lens. One thing I like about Olympus DSLRs is that the lenses are relatively inexpensive if you decide to upgrade.

Here's his ZX2 thread http://teamzx2.com/threads/30691-Tscorts-98)
His best run was against the Yellow WRX. The WRX beat him off the line but he came back and won. (Crown went hysterical)
He ended up blowing his oil feed line to the turbo and it ended his night.
Once again, I'm open to any criticism and tips!
I will be getting a tripod soon.

For this I used my 40 - 150mm. I really like it, it worked out great from where I was sitting. For now I'm just gonna stick with these 2 lenses and just learn more about camera setup and just taking overall better pictures.
808domi54 06-12-2011, 01:06 PM Went to a Auto-x and got some pic's I'll get them up. So for the mean time I practiced photoshop.
So here it is. I understand I didn't use the real HDR. I understand it may not be your taste but hey I like it.

Is that woodgrain red in real life? No...not really...
I'm not ashamed of them, in fact I embrace them. I thought they were the coolest thing ever when I took them - BEST thing ever, bar none. Point being, you move on. You progress. You get better. The only way you get better is by having an non-biased person tell it to you straight. I'm not going to sugarcoat stuff in the photo section. I might sugarcoat it a little in the Showroom, but not here. Most of us are in this section to improve.
The OP doesn't have a problem with it, in fact he laughed it off and moved on. He progressed. His panning shots are getting better and better every day. You're the only one who has anything to say about it. YOU, who are unrelated to this section of the forum in any way.
2.
I ain't goin' nowhere. I've been here long enough, I have enough posts, this is where I'm staying. I'm on two Mazda boards, but neither one has a photo section with as much traffic as this one. Also, neither of the other boards (and none on the internet that I've found) are as accepting of different people as FF. No other community takes care of their members like FF.
And that's the truth.

Troyftw 06-23-2011, 06:53 AM Wow, I'm impressed! Shots are definitely looking way better each time you post a new set. As far as the HDR goes, It definitely is a little oversaturated. when I do mine I use a program called photomatix pro.
Does your DSLR support automatic bracketing? If it does, try to get 3 different exposures of each shot you want to HDR. It makes a world of difference.
We all start out making some pretty ridiculous shots, but learn and get better from each one. Check out my thread http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=251356 I am still posting some shots that are way overdone, but I think I get better each time I shoot.
Keep up the good work, it only gets better from here [thumb]

As for "Automatic Bracketing" is there an abbreviation that would come up for it in the menu?
Thanks in advance.
tukaniSVT 06-23-2011, 04:30 PM "BKT" usually.
-Ray-
YellowJellyBean 06-23-2011, 04:33 PM It's auto exposure bracketing (AE BKT).
http://www.olympusamerica.com/crm/oneoffpages/crm_exposurebracketing.asp
808domi54 06-23-2011, 04:34 PM "BKT" usually.
-Ray-
Okay, In my menu I have a couple different things with "BKT"
-AE BKT
-WB BKT
-FL BKT
tukaniSVT 06-23-2011, 05:32 PM - AE - Exposure Braketing ... the Basic and commonly used one. Does 3 Exposure shots.
- WB - White Balance Braketing ... very interesting one. I don't use it. But it makes 3 different shots slightly off white balance. Maybe with different lighting going on it will help balance the light as your eyes do. Like being in a room with the sun blaring in and the lights in the house. 2 Different white balances.
- FL - Flash Bracket. What it does is creates exposures based on your flash. So, it's a TTL mode for bracketing. (TTL = Through The Lens)

tukaniSVT 06-27-2011, 12:24 AM Flickr definitely keeps the color.
As for your new watermark ... I think it's too hidden. Hard to catch if you are not looking for it.
Darken the mark and maybe put a 45% transparent bar behind it or something.

What I did to get the camera to focus in complete darkness is I setup a lit candle and had the camera focus on that then just moved the flash light around.

Surprisingly I've never seen him scrape, he is usually the fastest car out there. When people are running around 45sec AVG. He'll be running 36sec.. the guy is a hell of a driver and drifts almost everything.

808domi54 07-15-2011, 03:05 PM Either my friend or I took a picture of this car (Can't tell I was letting him play with my camera)

Printed the picture and framed it, went back to the autocross and gave the owner the picture, made the guys day.
He offered me money I said "nah man its a sweet car no need to give me money, I'm just a high school kid that likes cars." then his wife offered me to ride along with him while he was racing, I said sure.
What a great experience, good to know I made someones day.
One thing I do feel bad for since I don't know if I took the picture is that I didn't call my friend and offer him a ride in the car, I was so in the zone and had an adrenaline rush from the experience that I completely forgot.
Now I know I might get bashed for giving away a free picture, but I have a deep love for Z cars and the guy was a really really genuine person. I don't think I've ever smiled so big in my life, it was raining, the track was wet and we were doing wet runs so we got sideways on every turn, he was one hell of a driver. good stuff! [woot]
WiscoGTI 07-15-2011, 08:30 PM Why would we flame you for giving away a free picture!? That's cool stuff, dude.
808domi54 07-16-2011, 01:18 AM I added it in just as sort of a disclaimer because some people might ask "why would you give it away for free?" I mean you never know in this day and age.
tukaniSVT 07-16-2011, 01:38 AM I have given photos for free in the past ... but since I am in the field full time ... I think of it as free publicity to show others that will come to me wanting to take photos of their cars for a cost.
No flaming at all. That is real cool that you went ahead and gave them a photo.

808domi54 07-16-2011, 09:05 PM Okay, I'm back on this watermarks thing. My cousin called me and basically said I need a more professional water mark. I've been testing different designs for the last week or so, with many different designs from complex to simple lettering. So here it is, I'm done trying to make a complex one as I can't really get anything to flow properly and how I want it. I like this one short and simple with a bit of color.

I keep staring at that Ford emblem, and it amazes me how it came out. We were both in shock when you clicked "Negative" and it gave out that yellow effect, turned out for the best. People should actually start color coordinating the emblems the same color as the car.

808domi54 07-18-2011, 11:54 PM Its a new "Social Network" Google is creating. Its a lot different from Facebook, its more like a Blog and you can add people to your "circle" you can have different "circles" named with different categories like Family, Friends, Acquaintances & anyone other custom circle you would like to make. I find it really useful because you can upload your photos with Full Res and it doesn't degrade the Quality like Facebook, I'm already liking it about 3x better than Facebook.
Oh and its Invite only.
EDIT: in addition Happy 200th to me! [woot][woot]
tukaniSVT 07-19-2011, 12:18 AM ^^ Congrats on your 200th post ... and I didn't know that Google was doing such a thing.
Figures though. Google is one to jump into it thinking about competing in everything digital. Like the Phone (NexusOne), Navigation (Google Maps VS Yahoo), E-Mail (G-Mail) ... and now this.
Sad story for me ... I actually was given a chance to buy Google stock back in the 90s ... stupid me thought it wouldn't be worth the 60 bucks I was offered for each stock ...

We need moar pics Dom! [woot]
808domi54 07-19-2011, 05:26 PM Google defiantly is trying to put there hand on everything. One of the most useful things they have done is Google Docs (HERE (http://docs.google.com)) I mean I find it really cool that there are giving you basically free programs on the internet. Another one is Google Voice, my cousin got invited and he has free phone service he has unlimited everything (I'm not too sure about all the details just the stuff he's told me) I find it cool that Google is advancing and making stuff for the public to use instead of just benefiting them selves. That's all for now but Google is defiantly my favorite company/corporation whatever you wanna call them [pray]
EDIT: Look at this list of stuff pretty amazing. LIST OF AMAZING STUFF (http://www.google.com/intl/en/about/products/index.html)

WiscoGTI 07-23-2011, 03:43 AM I love Crown Vic PI Packages. I tried selling my Focus so I could buy one.
But I would never own a black and white one. Too "wannabe" for me. I would rock and all black or all white one. Those bastards are pretty quick. I test drove one and got it up to 100 with the quickness.
I still want one..

It great being in the "wannabe" cop car. Just driving around everyone just moves out of the way and you see everyone following all the laws.
As for quickness.. ehh not so much, My SVT out runs it pretty damn good.
Y'know not like we raced at all [}:)]
Giancarlo 07-23-2011, 01:52 PM Nice Crown Vic, I don't know if I would drive one I would get too much attention with it... what am I saying I drive a yellow car.. :O
I didn't know Photobucket was that bad compared to Flickr.
Flickr [vommit] Photobucket
lyonsroar 07-23-2011, 02:10 PM Post a picture from photobucket and one from Flickr and see if you can tell the difference. Betcha you can't readily tell. Maybe if you zoom way in you can tell the difference in sharpness but not at web size I'd wager.
Just pay the $30 for the FlickR pro membership. Well worth it IMO. Much smoother than photobucket and more polished.

Here is a SIDE BY SIDE comparison. I guess if you're blind you can't see the difference.
I would pay $30 for Flickr pro, but being a High School Student most of my money goes towards either THIS (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=261965) or my gas $$$ or I can wait 8 more days to get 300 more MB of Flickr room. I think I'm going to just wait 8 more days for 300 more MB's. Just my logical opinion.
lyonsroar 07-23-2011, 03:14 PM On my iPhone so, no I can't see the difference.
It's been my experience on the boards I frequent that the difference isn't **that** noticeable.
I'm a college student so my money goes towards tuition, books, etc. I make $00.75 over minimum wage at the moment but even I can come up with a paltry $30. If you're serious about photography the $30 unlimited FlickR storage is a small price to pay for full quality uploads and a polished interface.
808domi54 07-23-2011, 03:37 PM In my opinion it is pretty **noticeable**
I'm a 16 year old High School Student with no job. The money I make isn't near what you make. You make minimum wage it is still a shit ton more than what I make. Right now Photography is a hobby, I'm going to use the free tools while I have them. Sure I can go spend $30 on Flickr pro, but my priorities are set a bit different. I'd rather have food money for 3 days than a Flickr account.
FYI: Its nearly impossible for a 16 year old High School student to find a job here in Las Vegas.
mix1983 07-23-2011, 03:52 PM I always thought SmugMug looked the best, especially if you're going to pay.
lyonsroar 07-23-2011, 04:00 PM Never looked into SmugMug. Might have a look when my FlickR pro is up.
You can get a job at 16 anywhere in the country; Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell, public library, retail, target, wal mart, Foot Locker, etc.
808domi54 07-23-2011, 04:06 PM You can get a job at 16 anywhere in the country; Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell, public library, retail, target, wal mart, Foot Locker, etc.
I understand that. The casinos have laid off so many workers that nearly every position is being taken by an adult. So in nature of that they don't pay any attention to a student. Like I said its DIFFICULT not impossible just the odds aren't nearly on my side.
Giancarlo 07-23-2011, 04:47 PM Why are you telling a 16 year old to get a job? If he doesn't want to pay for a po account that's his choice.
mix1983 07-23-2011, 04:53 PM Its just his opinion on the matter. Something was posted and that's how lyonsroar feels about it. To be honest I'm not completely against it, I was flipping burgers when I was 16. People laugh at fast food but you learn some helpful skills for the future. Like not cracking under pressure.
Ever went into a burger joint and everyone in town seems to be in there? It sucks when you're on the other side of the counter.
lyonsroar 07-23-2011, 10:17 PM Why are you telling a 16 year old to get a job? If he doesn't want to pay for a po account that's his choice.
Because my personal OPINION that a job develops confidence, responsibility, and independence.
I merely stated the myriad of job options out there for the 16 year old job searcher throughout the country. If he doesn't want to pay the $30 for unlimited, full quality storage and display that is, of course, his choice. Just don't blame it on a not being able to find a job.
Anyway, this is the photo section so...post photos!

fliu005 07-24-2011, 01:39 AM I personally like SmugMug's layout. Less clutter
808domi54 07-27-2011, 05:48 PM This picture was taken in the dark. Just a long exposure and lighting from the garage.

Hahaha dude, that was priceless. I was so excited when I saw you haul balls from that trailer in front of you. Also I saw you always had the tendency of just going on the shift knob with your right hand.

Well as for my new garage I can't pull in/out without scraping my cat so I gotta pull in sideways all the time [mad]

2.3l Duratec.
808domi54 08-11-2011, 11:00 PM I have a video of a 2.3D beating me? Where? I've yet to race a 2.3D or race at all for that fact. I don't see where you are getting this information from.
808domi54 08-16-2011, 11:28 PM Hello everybody, Sorry about not having any picture in a while. Been busy moving and stuff.
Well I dialed in the camera settings and let my friend take pictures while I washed my car. I'd say he did pretty good taking the pictures, I really like the setup I used.
