: 2012 Honda Civic output at half capacity until fall

The devastating earthquake in Japan couldn't have come at a worse time for Honda. The Japanese automaker was just starting to launch its new Civic for 2012, and the compact car is a major part of the company's portfolio. Any delays or hiccups in the Civic's launch will surely send shockwaves reverberating through Honda's balance sheets.
Sadly, supplies of electronics parts and raw materials from Japan are still hampering automobile production for Honda, even in plants outside its home market. That includes the new 2012 Civic, which is assembled in Greensburg, Indiana and Alliston, Ontario.
Indydi 05-26-2011, 03:59 PM I do feel bad for them, even though I never considered the Civic. The car is just a colossal BORE.

That, and some how they seem to make every generation uglier than the one before it. I sipped from the Cool Aid and bought a 7th gen Civic because it was fuel efficient and reliable. It didn't make up for the boredom. I'm thrilled that the new Focus doesn't make me compromise on one to get the other.
05focusST91 05-26-2011, 06:01 PM thank god, it looks like a forte/sentra mixed togethed, makes me sick knowing i had a civic :x
jmcrides03 05-26-2011, 06:23 PM maybe this will boost sales for american cars
MacAttack 05-26-2011, 07:35 PM I feel bad for them, but somehow I don't think demand will be that high for this car, it's quite ugly.
focusin 05-26-2011, 09:48 PM Thats a terrible looking car!
ryuclan 05-26-2011, 10:24 PM Only Civic I even have an interest in is the SI. Honda has been around forever in one form or another. They will survive this.
Sayer 05-28-2011, 04:20 AM Unless I am mistaken, the US and Canada are the only market now that sell the Civic. It has been discontinued in Japan where the new Fit is immensely more popular and has taken the place of the Civic.
LostContrails 05-28-2011, 07:50 AM I disagree with some comments here, I say the latest design is the Civic at its best.
I really like how it looks to be totally honest. It looks dignified yet sleek and current.
However the interior is terrible, and the seats don't lower enough for me (6'3) in the drivers seat. I'd rather not be jammed into the ceiling.
Edit:, Also don't be so worried. The new Civic has already sold more then the Focus in my area. I have not seen one Focus on the road, but at least 6 different new Civics, and the Civic got here after the Focus. This latest Civic will do just fine. The price is right, and people buy into brand equity.
vmaxbaby 05-28-2011, 09:49 AM I saw an ad on TV that a Civic was going to have 200hp from the factory :( that is what the new focus needs. I know about the ST coming out but was told that the ST would be close to 30K :(

I agree that the new Civic will sell in huge numbers if only through inertia. It's hardly a bad car - it's actually quite a decent one - but it has no flair at a time when many competitors are offering just that (even Consumer Reports lamented the Civic's blandness in their first drive, for crying out loud).
I've seen one new Civic on the road so far, and it actually looks pretty good. I don't think it's as well-resolved as the '06, which grew on me quite a bit over the years, but it's a decent-looking car and I doubt its looks will lose it many sales at all.
vmaxbaby 05-29-2011, 08:33 AM In that case don't feel so bad
Darthenstein 05-29-2011, 02:37 PM Yeah, the Civic is a bit weird, but when you drive it it is built around the driver...the tach/speedo setup is fantastic with the manual, but pointless with the automatic.
One of our salesmen uses a Civic...his is an '09 with 141K on it, all he's had to do is replace a tire and a timing belt. It still gets >30mpg in the city.
I looked at one of those when I got my Focus but the price tag of $18k got me, same story with the Corolla...they are VERY well built cars but yeah they need some punch.
vmaxbaby 05-29-2011, 05:21 PM I hope with an exhaust and intake I can get my 160 to 175hp. I think the exhaust is the biggest issue with the 2012 focuses. They wanted them to be so quite :(
usapatriot 05-29-2011, 05:35 PM It looks nearly the same as the old one. And just like Toyota, all they basically did was change the design of the rear taillights for the 2012 model. Toyota changed the design on the 2011 Corolla taillights and now they look like older Mazda 6 ones. They are getting really lazy in terms of design and performance.
The steering and handling on the newer Corollas is so bad and feels plain weird/disconnected.

How do you put 141k on a car in 2-3 years? [scratch]
