you guys think it can be done.. the massive upgrade in power is definatally worth it... i have a good lead on a running car thats for sale from a guy in town that is a buddy of a buddy.

My big question is will it fit? we are going to look this weekend

it should but its a very tight fit im not familiar with the sho 3.0 but i<3myzx3 is swapping a 2.5 durated from an svt contour into his zx3 and that is basically the same motor as the regular 3.0 taurus and sable would have so if the sho is the same size outside as the regular 3.0 itll work and heres a almost complete write-up http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=121550

i believe its been done before a long time ago. mightve had something to do with "focus salvage" which was a small company/ user here (IIRC- its been a long time).

id build a 2.3 or go turbo instead but if you have the drive and skills to make it happen then go for it

^"Focus Salvage"... I completely forgot about that dude. I think he did do the CSVT swap got props, then burned a bunch of people on selling parts. (I hope that's the same guy we're talking about)

hell no its nothing like the others... Its huge for one thing. Cool engine yes but focussalvage or whoever did that had to do a large amount of custom work to the frame to allow it to fit under there... I dont even know about the rest.

Its been done, just saying it looks like a real pain asking for some major modification... But not impossible.

edit: and unless that happened with focus salvage as well, it was 06roush that had issues apparently.

Personally I still want a supra or skyline engine in mine

get on the contour or cougar forums and look into the 3.0 swap into those cars. a 2.5 has been done in the focus, a 3.0 has been done in a car that had a 2.5... just seems like itd be the best way to do it considering all the work involved. ive seen a straight 3.0 swap dyno between 200whp and 220whp with similar tq depending on mods.

That was a great motor, but the dealership has not made parts for it in years. I know rockauto has a lot of it, but good luck will be needed if you really want it. Mine was so tourquey even without mods it broke the motor mounts about 2 times a year.

If you follow I<3myzx3's thread, you will see that its a huge pain in the ass to swap that. I would consider a rwd carb'd v8 before I did a fwd v6 swap. Not a whole lot more work... yes you do need to fab parts for a rear end, but you also don't have to deal with wiring. There's a company that makes parts for a conversion. Lots of people know the company name, me not being one of them... lol

And didn't the SHO taurus use a 3.5 liter yamaha V8?

Swaps arent worth the money when you look at the price of building or ordering a built motor 4-5k good turbo 3-5k theres 400+ whp right there and no serious fabrication needed...

It was a 3.0 Yamaha and it was putting out quite a bit.. plus the one i have lined up has a turbo on it!

The old 3.0 SHO motor will not fit up front in the focus. It's just too big up top or too wide I forget but it won't fit, now the "regular" 3.0 Duratec will, it is identical to the 2.5 duratec just bigger displacement and a few other things, but they are interchangeable. The SHO swap ya'll must be thinking of is the Jay Leno one where it's in the back of the car, making it rear engine RWD.

As noted, it depends on the year. Through 95 got the v6 3.0 or 3.2 depending on the gearbox (3.0s were with the manual, 3.2 with the auto). I think they were both rated at the same power output but I don't know for sure. The v8 debuted when the Taurus changed body style in 96 or 97 as a 3.4L but was available as an auto only.

I had a 92 3.0/manual that I loved. The body was shot but holy crap did that car move (this can be verified by the Michigan State Police [paranoid]). I don't have any clue if it's even possible but that would be an awesome swap.

Jay Leno's os not a swap. That car came that way. Very rare.

with the amount of custom work you would need to do it would not be worth it
