would two dogs (boxer and medium size 'mutt') plus three suitcases, and the dog's stuff fit in the back of a hatchback?

im guessing u dnt have the hatch, yes it would add substantial amount....you can lift the rear seat push it towards the front, and then push foward the back of the rear seat and it lays almost flat

well we are car searching and we have a 2010 focus, and a chevy 1500, neither of them can really get us across 4 states with 2 dogs and all our stuff. So we are droppin the truck and looking for a hatchback or something that can get us back and forth and good on gas.

sucks youve got to drop the truck but hey a Hatch is the next best thing..

once you get the hatch..join the nation

I don't know... that sounds like it's pushing it. Let me get this straight: 2 medium dogs, 3 suitcases, and dog stuff. What constitutes "dog stuff" here? 2 carrier cages? Large bag of dog food? Or a duffle bag of smaller things? The Focus wagon might be a more practical solution.

Although the hatchback is roomy I can't picture it lugging anything more than 2 medium dogs and 2 suitcases. And that's barely giving the poor dogs any room to move around in the back. Honestly you're better off seeing the car in person once they become available, since some technical measurements can be misleading.

Well we have looked for two months and the only wagon around where we are has like 150K miles and they are asking almost $7,000 or we could get a mini-van. no thats not a good idea.

I assuming that the seats lay down, So 3 suitcase could fit for sure, turns out our 'mutt' isn't going to be with us any longer, (we found him and the owners stopped by this morning and said it is their's, they had pics and what not) So luggage, a boxer and a duffle bag of her stuff should fit (with the seats laid down) comfy right?

coming back from school, i have two large rubbermaids, a mongoose bike, an isolating fan, one with a stand, 2 desktops, a monitor, a macbook, and a few other things in my zx3, all i had sitting in the front seat was my macbook... i folded the seats down. but i would say that if you take the hatch cover off you should be fine with a zx3... but getting the dog in and out... i would go with a zx5.

this isnt so bad

If you fold the seats flat, I don't see this being a problem. I had two dogs (one small, one medium),two carriers (one small, one medium), two dog beds, two bags of food, one large suit case and two medium size suit cases in my three door with the seats folded flat. I managed to fit all of the stuff in the hatch area and the dogs were able to relax in their beds on the seat area. The dogs are an Italian Greyhound and a African Basenji.

If it comes too it we might drive out there, its closer than some other places. We just never looked around that area, because it just seems like long drive. thanks

Just FYI: The rear seats on my 07 (leather) do not fold flat at all. don't know about cloth. There is no provision to tie them down either. However, there really comfy seats.

You sure about that? Have you tried wedging your fingers between the back and bottom of the rear cushions to see if the back seats flip forward? Here (http://www.focushacks.com/?modid=65&ht=Rear%20Seat%20Trick:%20Cargo%20Mode) are some step-by-step instructions.

Yep. I'm not 100% positive that '05-'07 models have this feature too. But it was definitely present in the earlier '00-'04 models.

Re not knowing rear bench seat folds foward.......car manuals are an amazing source of information regarding the car you own. It appears many car owners miss many features their vehicle comes equipped with, just because.

Posted via FF Mobile One thing Im worried about here. If you do this I would NOT fold the seats down. You are endangering the safety of your dog more so then you already are. Unless you plan on fabricating a wall, how you going to stop that luggage and stuff from sliding around into her or her climbing all over it? Or if you get into and accident all that stuff is not gonna sit tight. Theres plenty of room without the seats folded. Keep them up, put gear in the hatch part and leave the pup in the rear passanger seats. Oh and out of the two cars you posted Id get the blue one, a lot less miles. Although, I feel almost 5k is alittle much for a 2002 with over 70k.

Ohhh! I see now! I wish I could post up the relevant pages from the manual. 1: It does not tell you HOW to accomplish folding the rear seat forward. 2: Instructions (such as they are) are under "Sedan". But mostly I ignored them as they seem to be written for a different car and not applicable.
Still don't see how the cushion is going to clear the rear cup holder though.
Thanks! [cheers]

Add >> I figured it out. My manual (labled as "2007 Focus Owners Manual" from Ford) contains several sections/instructions that were written for the 08+ models, details features never available in 07.

well she sleeps the entire way, (cept when she has to go) so she doesn't move that much. Then we could bungee the stuff down, but we would probably leave the seats up if we could. I just want to know how much room we have so if we need to move we could pack this one up, my focus, and then borrow a family members truck for beds and what not.

i say go with a wagon. There is a ton more room with the seats up compared to a zx5. my dad has used one as a truck for 9 years and hasn't really had any trouble fitting anything in it lol. there has to be at least a foot or two more than a zx3 with the seats up on both. and they aren't really any harder to find than a hatch
