: Small update on Ford website

Just thought I'd let any prospective buyers know that Ford has updated their 2012 Ford Focus configurator. The old 2011 Focus can't even be configured anymore actually.

Mostly, it's just a little more streamlined, and the options are a little less ambiguous, with better pictures and a better interior view.

[vommit][8]

It also has the current fuel economy set as 24/35 mpg...

Also, they added a longer video of "Addictive Driving Dynamics", in the videos section, and at 1:47 long, it actually does an excellent job of going over the new features (not to mention it's just plain cool how it shows everything).

In particular, when it mentions the active grill shutter, it captions "Available on certain packages and trim levels...", so I'm hoping that means it will be included in multiple packages (like the sport package), and/or multiple trims (probably Titanium as well as the SE SFE).

Also added more colors and listed more options if building one online.

I thought the EPA just did the 65 mph highway test and got 40!?

Wow... I didn't even notice the fuel economy numbers.

Well, i'm still holding out hope, maybe those are placeholder numbers, since on the "Specs" page, on the "Engine" tab, the Fuel Economy stat is still "To come", when all of the other tabs on the Specs page have been updated... (stupid reason I know)

Also, I find it hard to believe that the EPA just rated the SFE package at 29/40, while the normal Focus somehow doesn't do nearly as well? I know the Fiesta's SFE package only adds 2 mpg to the highway, and I can't imagine the couple of aerodynamic tweaks made all of the numbers jump by 5 mpg (especially city mpg). Even the normal manual fiesta makes 28/37... Would the active shutter grill (the only difference in the focus SFE package) make THAT much of a difference?

Orr... maybe it's just because of the more stringent EPA standards now?

I don't know, can you tell how hard I'm trying to not believe it? haha. They're good numbers nonetheless, but c'mon, the city mpg being even lower than the current Focus? No bueno. [vommit]

Posted via FF Mobile Isnt that pretty much what the 2011 is rated? Not bad when you consider it gained some power and some weight. Also im sure Ford doesnt want to bastardize Fiesta sales anymore with the coming of the focus, so maybe they purposely got the ratings a bit lower. Now, we all know epa estimates are iffy and many people get something entirely different. These days it seems to be higher. Also remeber the mpgs are going to be different across the line, the base S focus will weight less then the titanium. And the bigger wheels and the fatter tires of the titanium will change this figure too. Im not totally sure about all the details of EPA testing, but did Ford give them a titanium focus to test, or an S, or do they have to give them every model and then the EPA averages the numbers out?

I have no clue really how the EPA tests a car while taking into account all of its trim levels, but I'd like to know as well.

And I suppose you're right... also, if the new Focus lives up to that 0-60 time that car and driver posted (7.6 I believe), then I won't care at all about the unchanged fuel economy.

I guess if you compare it to the current Mazda 3, it's still an amazing car. More hp in the basic config, with more mpg and probably equal driving dynamics, so I probably have no room to complain I guess. [hah][8]

guys... the EPA hasnt rated the *regular* focus yet i thought???? they did rate the SFE focus at 28/40 but it makes no mention of the vehicles not equipped with the SFE package. i would expect those numbers to be higher than what my 3 year old car was rated when it was new; like around 27/36 or so...

Posted via FF Mobile Check out this little C&D story about EPA testing.

http://blogs.insideline.com/straightline/2011/02/2012-ford-focus-titanium-suspension-walkaround.html

I dont think Epa estimstes are out for the regular focus yet either, but maybe they never will. Read the article and youll see what I mean. Hell maybe the regular focus gets 40mpg, but as much good as there is now, maybe the bean counters took advantage of these super fuel economy packages and created one to mltry toget people to spend more money. Im sure you will get better mileage, but how much? Will be interesting to get real world tests from owners. Dont people get higher hwy mileage in their 08-11 foci now then whats rated?
Ford could also be leaving themselves wiggle room too for marketing purposes. Like when the new civic comes out, if the mpgs are more then the focus, I wouldnt be surprised if Ford came out with a "retune" or something that squeezed out some more to best the competition.

C&D is also saying start stop tech is in the near future, for even more mpgs. This should equal to mpg north of 30 miles for city driving...which in a non hybrid focus is pretty damn good if you ask me.

"Also im sure Ford doesnt want to bastardize Fiesta sales anymore with the coming of the focus, so maybe they purposely got the ratings a bit lower."

I completely disagree with this statement and numerous conspiracy theories. The 24/34 is 2011 Focus automatic's #. On the official EPA site, there is no listing for 2012 yet, so wait and see what a window sticker says.

Im just illustratin the possibilities. I will wait to see official info until I give people official ratings on mpgs.

Well, 2012 EPA #'s are out for the non-SFE, and the 6 speed dry clutch automatic gets 28 city/38 highway, manual gets 26/36.

Why is their building system so effing stupid?

I can't have solid black cloth seats with the 17" rims? why the f not? So stupid....

and why would the manual ONLY come with the SE?

You can always ask your dealership. Seriously. They might not be able to help you with a manual on the SEL or Titanium, but I'm sure some strings can be pulled to get you unlisted configurations. These online configurators are only supposed to give you an idea of what the pricing is like with options. It doesn't necessarily mean you can always get exactly what's on the screen.

If I were to get a Fiesta I'd make damn sure I'd be able to get the SE model with the 16" wheels off of the SES model. The Sport Package wheels on the SE are hideous! I don't see any reason why a salesman wouldn't be able to help me do that swap. Of course I'd be willing to pay extra, but it's that sort of negotiation that IS possible but can't be done on the computer.

You can get the Focus SEL in manual in Canada, and our cars will be coming from the same plant so I don't see why you can't have a manual SEL.

I worked through 6 different Ford Dealerships in STL and no one could order a manual SEL for me. Oddly enough each one gave me the same story that they would contact someone at the plant and were all told within an hour its not possible.

Settled for a fully loaded SE. Would have loved to have MYFord Touch and climate control, but oh well.

I am hopping to be able to get 40+mpg on the highway like I can with my MT 08 Focus.

Posted via FF Mobile Id give up my ford touch for the sport package on the SE, did you get it? Sync and the mini info center is plenty for me. I think my fordtouch is cool, but I dont need it. Sync allows you to do many of the features anyway through voice commands. Plus I like having physical dials for the HVAC.

I did get the sport package, if for no other reason then to get the 17' painted black wheels. MyFord Touch was a must have for me until a week after I placed my order and finally got to try it on a Explorer. It looks gorgeous and techie, but I noticed the touch screen not sensitive at all and while driving if you touch it more then twice you're locked out. Maybe it was a good thing.

Posted via FF Mobile Yea not all the things work while driving and all reviews have said it could be more responsive and faster. Im typing on an Ipod now and used to this level of sensitivity...anything else and road rage would probably set in. I think you made the right choice and probably saved yourself some money. Youll be just as happy, and probably so when you start flinging it around thinking, so glad I got the sport suspension.
