B-52s have been in service since the 1960s and they're still going strong(the U.S.A.F. intends to keep them in service until at least 2040,unheard of for ANY JET AIRCRAFT,military or otherwise)!! I'll take the B-47. mjd4277 02-09-2011, 06:56 PM B-47s would;ve probably lasted longer in service if it weren't for all the reliability issues with the avionics and metal fatigue issues,which hastened their retirement. Last ones were retired from frontline service in 1969,while test aircraft were phased out by 1977. | |
