After i got my subthump box it kinda blocks the stock trunk light which isnt all that good to begin with. Its enough to see whats back there i guess but i kinda wanted a little more.

I put 5 back there using the 2 12" strips from walmart.

I put 2 down low just inside the lip of the hatch

2 on the box, one shinning down one out the back incase i need to see outside the back.

Then one up in the passanger corner

Everything runs off the stock OEM trunk light socket so when i pop the hatch they all come on together.

Walmart 12" flexable lights $18. walmart "custom" is the brand.

I cut them up into 3LED sections just like how they are marked in each string. gives you 8 total 3 LED strips

using my iron i wired them all together how i wanted them arranged in the back.
Hang on to the packaging because you will use this later
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/BowerR64/LiquidFocus/Trunklights8.jpg

This is the tricky part. Use your stock bulb as a guide how wide to cut the cardboard packaging into strips.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/BowerR64/LiquidFocus/Trunklights9.jpg

Glue the wire to the inside of one section, tin the tips. Cut some thin copper strips (found at hobby lobby in the art section for copper art work or somthing) copper wire might work just as good.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/BowerR64/LiquidFocus/Trunklights10.jpg

glue the copper to the 3 ply cardboard strips and solder the wires to the fake plug. Polarity isnt critical
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/BowerR64/LiquidFocus/Trunklights11.jpg

Then after you solder the wires to the fake plug leads, wrap the solder and cardboard with ducktape or electrical tape.
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/BowerR64/LiquidFocus/Trunklights12.jpg

After everything is wired in you just simply plug the fake plug into the stock OEM socket and stick the light strips into place.

The polarity is not critical if when you plug it in one way it doesnt light up just flip it around and then it should work.

Thats a great Idea, I put a LED in my 2010, its brighter than stock, but I would like it to look like your High Noon daytime trunk! LOL, gotta see whats in the trunk at night!

Well it isnt quite as bright as high noon but its better then stock.

It just looks bright because the camera ISO was at 800 [hihi]

Wow that is really clever. I may look into this because I cannot see anything back there at night and have to load/unload equipment often and always at night. That kinda sounds shady. lol

You think you have to actually solder it or would it work if you basically just laid it on there and wrapped it up? I don't have the iron to do it with.

For what? When you get the lights from walmart they come in a longer 12" strip i wanted the lights spread out around the trunk area a little more so i cut them into 3 LED sections. If you do this you have to solder them back together.

You may find a plug on e-bay that you can push into the rear trunk socket and then poke the wires into from there.

I created my own plug because i didnt want to cut and splice the stock setup incase i wanted to put it all back how it was stock. Back seats back in, back panel and stock bulb. It was cleaner and easier IMO.

Looks good, I did something similar with my trunk, results below. There are 4 LED clusters with 3 LED's

I was wondering the same thing. At first I was like holy $%!& a second Gen hatch! I have wanted to do something like this as well, maybe with red LEDs

Are these speakers i see all along the back? They look like little midrange speakers or somthing? [unsure]

nope just plastic screws that hold on that plastic panel. Would be interesting to have a bunch of speakers back there though

I took a chance with a LED bulb from VLED's. Before I bought them I planned on using both bulbs that came in the pair by using a rectangle trunk light on the passenger side, but there was no need to.

Here's my before and after...

With LED:

If you look directly at the bulb (without it filtered through the housing) it will blind you!

My guess is that it got moved here accidentally when they separated the forums by generation.

I'm definitely gonna do something like this w/ my '08 SE...but I have this thing where I like things to be the same on both sides. So I'll definitely do four with two on each side, lol.

How do you connect them back together once cut into separate strips?
