i am looking at buying a garret AIResearch m11 t3 turbo int is .42 ext is .48 does anybody know if this turbo is oil cooled only or water and oil? if it is oil only is that a bad thing should i stay away from it? this is my first turbo build and im trying to not cheap out and get a good garrett thatll last and wont fall apart like an ebay xspower turbo, so i want to make sure it will last if it is only oil cooled. thanks alot any input is appreciated

I dont know if its only oil cooled or not but if it it that just means its a journal bearing instead of a ball bearing. it will spool slower but thats already a small turbo so it shouldnt matter much. dont expect alot of power out of it

im lookin to run around 8 - 10 psi max i have a spi with stock internals its just gonna be a fun DD not a race car. you think it would be a decent turbo for it? maybe after i go to e85 like 12 pounds.

personally i wouldnt turbo a spi but that preference. its what you have so if you want to turbo it go for it. The spis were notorious for dropping valves. There was one that made like 400whp somewhere i believe. I just dont think it would last very long but then again each motor is different. Actually I would do it just to say I had a turbo focus. Im working on turboing mine but right now times arew rough and im actually having to sell stuff i have for my build. I have a airesearch t3 for my ole ladies car and a t3/to4e .57 trim for my car but both of our cars are zetecs

is the airesaerch you have oil or oil and water cooled? i know they had both. what psi do you have it at and are you happy with it?

it is only oil cooled. it actually hasnt been on the car yet. I bought them and then decided to build a fully built motor before i turboed it. I was gonna run 17 psi but i have an svt swapped zx3 so its got forged rods. I picked up a spare motor but just sold my manifold. so now i am going to make a cutom top mount so i can have a 3'' downpipe and still have a/c and power steering

lol wow Joe I cant believe I came across this from google...
btw the specs for the above turbo are incorrect. the M11 is a T03 .48/.60 (60 trim I believe) from an 85-86 thunderbird, water and oil cooled.
Yup you guys guessed it, Im looking for one of those.
