: So i've casually started to look for my next car, but i'm very picky and need help...
captcurt_18 12-09-2010, 02:16 AM Like I said, I'm starting to look for my next car (I will be graduating here soon, and would like something to show for all my hard work thru college). The problem is, I'm really picky about what my next car needs to have. So, take a peek at what I want, and if you have any suggestions, throw em up. I have no preference on brand really...
Required:
-AWD
-V6, turbo, or both (preferably the last)
-mtx (5 or 6 speed)
Right now, Im looking at Saab 9-3 aero's. The 2008's - present have all the options I want; turbo v6, awd, 6 speed manual. And they are good looking to boot.

mbell75 12-09-2010, 02:20 AM If it doesnt have to be a V6, I would take the Evo or STi all day.
mmmoose 12-09-2010, 06:14 AM The Saab 9-3 is pretty sick. VERY pricey though. If you have the money to burn I say go for it! If you'd like something cheaper, definitely can't go wrong with an EVO or STI either. Taurus SHO AWD or pretty much any Audi (A3/A4/A5/A6) works too. Personally for me it would be a tossup between the Saab 9-3 and Audi A3.
Missourileo 12-09-2010, 06:19 AM Audi all the way...... or you could man up and get a Focus ST
alex62390 12-09-2010, 06:52 AM Get the 9-3 aero. They are fantastic cars. I am a technician at a SAAB dealership. I do not see any v6's with engine problems. maybe a coil every couple months. they are pretty reliable. The only bad i can think of is parts are extremely expensive. ex. fuel pump (parts only) is almost $500.
they are pretty quick. with a little work i am sure you could dust just about anything.
have you looked for a turbox? they have more power then the standard v6.
Djzx3 12-09-2010, 07:00 AM Saab, trust buddy I owned a late model a 87 9000 turbo, it was considered a executive sports car. I would grab another Saab in a heart beat, if I had that kinda money, you will not be disappointed.

people who have owned SAABs usually love them. Anybody else just does not understand them. SAAB 9000 aero's go for under 1500 now even with their stock 220hp.
Djzx3 12-09-2010, 07:38 AM ^^^ it wasn't a Saab 9000 aero, It was called a 1987 Saab 9000 turbo. And it was pushing 170HP stock. I didn't get the chance to put other mods on it, But I could only imagine the power that it would have produced, The cylinders in that thing were huge. I don't remember exactly what the bore was, but it was big.
Yocrew 12-09-2010, 08:16 AM I love those Aeros. Even the older ones (eraly 2000's) are nice.

i know, the aero's were only in the last few years. before it was a CSE. a kid i went to school with had a 650hp 9-5. that thing was completely unnecessary.
Djzx3 12-09-2010, 08:42 AM Lol, what you mean by completely unnecessary? 650HP sounds good.
fburgfocus 12-09-2010, 10:44 AM Volvo S60 R ?
besthaticouldo 12-09-2010, 10:47 AM Volvo S60 R ?
yep...puts saabs to shame. [headbang]
DrkKnight614 12-09-2010, 11:30 AM Posted via FF Mobile Sounds like a good idea. I think it would help if you gave us a price range too. Does it have to be a v6 with a turbo? What about the subaru legacy? Or maybe try finding a audi a4, or a bmw 3 series with awd and the twin turbo engine. I have no problem with the saabs. Like someone else said, people who have them love them, others just dont understand. The newest saab 93 turbo x that came out in 08 was beastly looking. If you could find one of those Id jump on it.
puppetman 12-09-2010, 11:30 AM ive always wanted a saab, but they seem to have horrible reliability reviews. plus, we don't really know the fate of that company with spyker at this point. it would be nice to hear from somebody with experience on the reliability issues though.
alex62390 12-09-2010, 11:38 AM Lol, what you mean by completely unnecessary? 650HP sounds good.
can get power to the ground, eats trannies (monthly), fast but never raced.
SAABs are just as reliable as any other new car today. I rarely see no starts on 9-3's and late 9-5's. and if it won't start there are not that many common issues. fuel pumps go, but so do bmw's ( a lot more, they were recalled). With a SAAB you will need tires every 25k, just keep rotating with every oil change. which is every 10k. most other "problems" are completely random. check engine lights are usually simple, like a loose gas cap, because they don't always work right. pretty much as long as you do the services they car will be great.
I think a lot of the misconception about reliability came out of the 90's with GM's version of what a SAAB is. the newer ( 2002 and later) are pretty good, and pre 1992 is also great. just please skip anything in between.

bigjordan 12-09-2010, 11:58 AM you gave no price range. i say audi rs4. it is not v6 or turbo, but it is fantastic.

I will agree on you with the tranny thing, I got rid of mine cause the tranny lost reverse and for a re-built tranny would have cost me $2300, and that's with me doing the work. But if they have made there tranny better, then I would pick one up in a heart beat, and the people who have had them, love em, and people who haven't, just don't understand. I can answer that one, Go drive one for a week. Then you will understand the feeling of Saab power, sport tuning, and performance right out the box.
But that's just my thoughts, I had one and it got me hooked, even with the tranny gone. I miss it every day.[bigcry]

Good luck finding one of those. I've only seen one ever come up for sale in my area of the country.

Er Don't you mean B-spec? They're very hard to come by, I believe only 2,000 or so are in the US, but they're the shit. I want one real bad. I'd love me a Legacy.
I too thought of the Mazdaspeed6, but they're 4-cyldiner turbocharged cars if I'm not mistaken, but do make around 275hp, are 6 speeds, and have AWD.
Maybe you'd like a BMW 335i ? AWD Twin-turbo 6, 6 speeds I believe as well.
captcurt_18 12-09-2010, 02:19 PM Many opinions, so lets dive into this:
have you looked for a turbo x? they have more power then the standard v6.
That is the model I want if I go with the Saab
Volvo S60 R ?
This is a great suggestion. Only trouble is that I have seen only one that is a "true manual" But I really do like that idea.

Eh, price range is hopefully below 25k, but im willing to see whats out there at most price ranges. I do like like bmws and audis, hell i had a e46 for a while, but those are something to keep on the back burner.

Didn't know that, but thanks for showing it to me.
Subaru Legacy GT A-spec.... if you can find one.
pssh yea that would be pretty badass. Something that turns me off a little bit to Subarus is that there is SOOOOOOOOOO many around my area that I want to be different.

mmm sexy
Mazdaspeed6?
trying to move away from the 4 cylinder. need moar powa!

the 335xi is the AWD version

B-Specs were wagons the last time I checked. That would make it an even better choice [thumb]
alex62390 12-09-2010, 02:32 PM i approve of the b-spec wagon. NO SEDAN, I think the sedan Legacy's are UGLY in any trim.
DrkKnight614 12-09-2010, 03:01 PM B-Specs were wagons the last time I checked. That would make it an even better choice [thumb]
Posted via FF Mobile B specs are the performance oriented turbocharged versions. And as of late the legacy only comes in a sedan.
nepafocus03 12-12-2010, 03:05 PM i didnt read all the pages but did anyone suggest the R32? i know theyre kinda rare and expensive used and dont have a traditional manual but.....good luck i also kinda like the saabs, they are real classy looking
twerpie1 12-12-2010, 07:05 PM I just hope you don't get rid of the focus, but I would take the saab if I had the choice.

hmm never considered that. I do like r32's. I'm just having trouble talking myself into a hatch. always been a sedan guy.
I just hope you don't get rid of the focus, but I would take the saab if I had the choice.
nah, Tiff, if anything, the focus would get more love than the saab. She would go up on a lift and then magic would start to happen. (can you say serious engine build?)
nepafocus03 12-13-2010, 11:33 AM gotcha didnt notice the focus was a sedan lol im the opposite i cant really see myself in a car thats not a hatch.
captcurt_18 12-13-2010, 06:20 PM gotcha didnt notice the focus was a sedan lol im the opposite i cant really see myself in a car thats not a hatch.
for sure. Dont get me wrong, if someone handed me the keys to an r32 or a pwsc'd svt, id be happy [clap]. But since I do have a choice, I have a love for sedans. Makes me feel like a swanky business exec (which is my goal some day...)
captcurt_18 12-14-2010, 06:40 PM alright, so i know i said awd was required, but heres something i could make an exception for... acura tl type s:

I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but I also miss the Acura RSX. Not exactly the top performer in its class, but for some reason its exterior design always hit a sweet spot for me. Unfortunately they don't exist anymore.
I'm just not feeling the designs in their current lineup. I feel like most of their cars have tons of front and rear overhang. They might be fast and reliable, but they also look like huge blocks of cheese on wheels.
[unsure]
Master-Baits 12-14-2010, 09:07 PM Dont know if anyones said it, but why not an infiniti g35 or 7, not turbo but who needs it with over 300 ponies na.

captcurt_18 12-19-2010, 11:21 PM So..... I might be stickin it out in the focus family for a bit longer. Look what showed up for sale in my town.
