the past month was quite interesting, but in the end worked out great.
Rewind a month ago, i was at a track day at Willow springs international raceway big track having a good time... right up until i spun a rod bearing and the motor seized a blew a hole in the block.....hmmm

now he's the dilemma, Super lap battle finals was in a month, sema before that... so i had 3 weeks to get the car running good enough to make the event and still make sema....this is gunna be interesting

i had a stock 2.3 duratec in the garage which i had planned to build in the off season, but now it had to go in stock to make the event. Also i had a new Kaaz differential in transit from Japan that i wanted in before the event since it would pay big dividends at a track like buttonwillow. basically the motor, and diff swap took place around work hours in my close friends back yard for the next 3 weeks, and thanks to Omni Speed Tuning for sponsoring the Kaaz differential when money was tight for me, i was able to get the car running on halloween, the night before i left for sema

fast forward to tuesday before Super lap battle....
because the whole auto industry was at SEMA, including me and all of FSwerks, the car had to get on the dyno after sema, which only left 2 days to do so before super lap battle. Monday was a throw away since the guys at FSwerks had to play catch up from being gone for a week, tuesday we had a small hour or so window to get the car on the dyno. That was the good news, bad news was... because of lack of psi i could run on a stock bottom end duratec, i was about 20whp and 30wtq down from my built 2.0 setup, and my top competitor at super lap battle was cranking close to 500whp....this was gunna get interesting.

my first practice session out, fresh motor, new diff, brand new tires i had never been on...i was a bit nervous...

couple laps in...i realize the smooth wide torque band of the 2.3 really matches the track well, the Kaaz differential is allowing me to be on throttle in places i never knew possible, and the Bridgestone RE11's which were graciously sponsored to me for the event were dead nuts fast and predictable. lets just hope the times reflect the same positivity.

first practice i run my personal best and im only a few tenths behind the 1st place 500whp competitor i mentioned earlier. By my second timed session, i barely got ahead of him for the win in class with a 2.01:699 lap time, his best was 2.01:754. talk about close!

thanks to all who made this possible, all my friends from Midnight squad who helped and supported me to get the car running again, everyone at Omni Speed tuning that made sure i had the parts i needed to win, randy and vik at FSwerks for making sure i got on the dyno in time for the event. Gino and yukio at Apollo performance for helping me to obtain sponsors for the event and for the future. Sport car motion for importing the Kaaz diff for me, Motul for providing their exceptional oil and brake fluid, and Rodriech and Bridgestone tire for supplying a in class winning tire, the potenza RE11. Also my friends who were at the event to see it unfold, Jesse, joseph, kunal, alex, pete, lorin, bowers, ryan, michele, quirt, and thomas.

fyi the car will handle better when its on 4 wheels. haha

Sucks about the blow engine. But, its great you beat out a high hp car. Just proves that power is not everything.

That's a great. Good to see you and the Foci showing what your capable of on a track. So I'll be the one to ask it. What was the 500hp car?

Very cool. Beating a 500whp Neon, you must be able to carry your speed better in the turns. It's all about momentum, conservation of energy...

Hmmmm....maybe my 2.3 made more power than I thought...sadly it's at Copart now.......
