I looked under my car today, because it sounded like there was excessive air noise under there, and I found that it looks like some heat shield by the exhaust manifold or something is held up in the front but not the back. I didn't get a real good look @ it, but that's what I think is going on. Anyone else had this occur? It's probably just that some genius didn't tighten the back bolts down enough @ the factory.
Yet another thing to add to my list of things that Ford needs to fix.

A pic would help a lot....it's hard to go by what you said....maybe give the location...It could be that your exhaust could have fell out of the rubber hanger...doubt it but it's a possibility....but as i said pics would help a lot.
WARRANTY, get them to fix it. Unless you got some jackstands to get under there, let them fix it, it'll be free. Probably just came unclipped plus it's 'bendable' so maybe something hit it and it just needs to be bent back. Either way, they will fix this for you if you don't have the stuff to do it yourself.....

Betcha it's the lower heat shield for the cat. Mine's come loose at the rear too. The holes in th eheat shield are too big for the fastener holding them on.

It is definately the heat shield. Mine did the same thing. It is now gone and there is no more rattling noise.
^^^ gone as in you took it 'off' your car?

i had the back bolt break off on the cat. and the heatshield was hanging. so they put a friggin metal band around it to fix it, and told them that was unexceptable and they had to tap the bolt out and fix it. just take the whole heatshiled off and theyll give you a new one while your at it ;)

I hit something and it practically fell off by itself.
The Ford Tech I deal with told me to just pull it the rest of the way off and that it was pretty useless anyway.
He also told me that if it comes off due to hitting something, Ford does NOT have to cover it.

The heat shield is there for a reason. If you ever park the car where vegetation is up against the bottom the cat, it can start a fire. Great way to get rid of your car.
