hi guys i have a 2003 st170 focus and after driving for any more than half an hour it gets really hot under the hood and starts miss fireing the oil and water temp guages read normal temps. is there anything i can do to reduce the heat without going a vented hood as fiber glass and carbon are illegal over hear in australia. would heat wrapping the exhaust manifold help.

Starts misfiring...well assuming your water temp gauge is working correctly, which it most likely is, the solution is not to vent the heat out of your engine bay. That would be a band-aid. The root of problem is something else...and if it is truly misfiring, then you need to look into: coil pack, spark plugs, spark plug wires, coil pack pigtail, etc.

thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that i have a new coil pack and leads on the way it also has new spark plugs im just looking to prevent the problem happening again once the new stuff is in.

Heat wrapping the header cuts the heat down a ton. For the cooler temps it is well worth the cost.

what coil pack did you install. i heard a lot of people get problems with the msd coil

Posted via FF MobileThanks for the replies guys. Yeah I got an msd hyperspark coil n leads I havnt installed it yet tho hopefully I won't hav any problems with it as it's a pain in the ass to get parts for these cars over here

All the guys running 500+ bhp use stock coil packs...they all say MSD is terrible. Just something to consider.

just an update. got my msd coil and cfm leads today and installed them and so far so good no more missfiring :) ill have to take it for a long run through the mountains on the weekend to see how it goes

You can remove the rubber strip that runs along the backside of the engine bay that seals against the back of the hood.......that lets a crap load of heat out of the bay.

Will that let an excessive amount of water into the engine bay when it rains?

Not really there is still a little plastic lip to help divert water.

I don't have any water issues and we see a lot of rain here in ohio. I cut the center section out to let some of the heat away from the top of my jrsc. If I remove the whole strip of rubber I run into problems with my carbon fiber hood fluttering in the wind.
