Mods are in sig. WTF is going on here. Its an autotragic. btw. I have to floor it or really get on it to get some speed. It just wont accelerate right at all. I reoiled my fs filter. The first time, I put to much on it. I also cleaned my maf sensor. Checked my tire pressures. Everything seems ok. My car is lagging so bad help.... Its never been like this with acceleration. Now, its making me mad. I feel like im not moving....

When you changed the plug wires did you change the plugs also? Kind sounds like your plugs are misfiring to me. But I no expert. Waterboy or crazy_urn or somebody might give you better adivce.

I assume since you didnt mention one, your not getting a CEL?

And I assume you have had all your recalls and TSBs done. (though i cant recall one with these symptoms....)

Your acceleration is smooth, just really slow? I had a problem with my plugs missfiring (caused by a short in a couple wires) in my old truck, cause really jerky acceleration...

I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but it sounds like might be a prob with your a/f mixture... especially since you just messed with your intake. did you reset your ECU after all that?

hopefully someone with more mechanical knowledge can help you more then me.

There is a misprint in the Haynes manual (some of them, not all) with the plug wires crossed.
Harness
____PLUG_____

#2 #4

#3 #1
_____________

Looking at the block, it is:
#1 cylinder is to the left, then 2, 3, and 4

How old are the wires? I had a set take a poop and how I found it was to take a biggie cup of water and dribble it over the wires. It helps if it is dark or shady. If you have an arc you'll hear it and see it.

Like Urn said, you getting a code? It may be the DPFE sensor. They take a crap on a fairly consistent basis. If you're getting a CEL, take it to AutoJoke and have them read it for you.

I'll check tomorrow and see what shakes out.

No engine light at all. Just bought a brand new battery to. The wires are lined up the correct way. Ive had all the recalls done and what not. Im still humbled and not sure what it is.... On a side note.... Still having some clacking issues.... I have a bdr udp...... I made sure the belt is tight, the pulley is on tight and the tensioner is fine also.... But, the freakin belt is rubbing on some metal and its causing it to clack.... I mean really loud to.... Put on some wd-40 and it went away.... Next morning... Right back to the clacking.... Its driving me up the wall.... What can, I do about that....? Im gonna add a pic for you guys can see, exactly what its rubbing on.... Its kinda hard to see my red circle.... But, look closely and its right in the middle... That is what its rubbing on.... This might sound really stupid.... But, can this be causing the acceleration issue....? Im learning so much on these boards... Ive never been into cars or new anything about them... But, every since. I bought the focus.... Ive been really trying/getting into it.... So bare with me.... Anyways, enough of me blabbing. Onto to the pic....

What is circled is your belt tensioner. How many miles on this car? I'm wondering if your bearing on the tensioner is going out and is causing the pulley to drag. That would explain the clicking and slow revs. Have you taken off the belt and checked to see that the pulley spins freely? I'm reasonably sure you can just replace the pulley and bearing as one part as opposed to relacing the whole tensioner assembly. Take off the belt and start her up and see if she revs better. If not we need to keep looking. Darn computer controlled, sensor-laden cars can do some goofy shiznet...

Our ECU's are pretty smart. They are constantly remapping fuel curves and air/fuel ratios. If it's been that long you're fine. What we do when we reset the ECU is to return everything to a baseline and set the ECU into a learn mode. It takes over from there.

if your car is laggy, check ALL the wiring around your engine. if you accidentally cut a wire around your coil, it'l cause your engine to misfire. it happened to me. Also if you installed an aftermarket tach on a non-tach car without the use of the kit, it requires you to spice some wires under the hood. if you spliced wrong, then it'll lag.
