: taking out my header

I am heat wrapping my header and wanted to know which is the best/easiest way to take out the header? from the top or the bottom? I already have the heat shield off, just wanted some answers before i mess anything up taking the header off lol
Oh, I would also like the torque specs too please

No way you're taking it out from the top. Absolutely has to go out the bottom. Since you have the heat shield off, I assume you have already dropped the fans. If that's the case, you just unbolt the header from the head and from the cat. It drops right out as long as your car is far enough up in the air.

Kudos on the project, but ceramic coated looks MUCH better. Check my gallery for pics.
And yes, from the bottom is easier. Here (http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=112153) is a link to the "how to" for exactly what you're doing.

i never took the fans out when i did mine... just took my time and wiggled it out.

^^^just bumped up to a focus addict! yay

You do realize that dropping the fans takes less time than wiggling the header past them, right? There are 2 connectors that take 5 sec...maybe 10 sec, to disconnect, then you have to take the small wire loom off of them (3 or 4 "pop-screws"), and then there are 2 tabs on the sides that you have to pop out. It's so fast I don't even think about it.

lol. well i did it just fine without... just an idea.

Fair enough. But when you want to put a turbo in there...not an option, gotta drop em [:)]

I didn't take the fans out, it actually dropped pretty easily without removing the fans. All, i have to do now is grind off the heat shield mounts and wrap it up, :)

Do i need to replace the gaskets before i put the header back on? My dad told me that after the header has been removed the original gaskets have a better chance of leaking after re-installation...

it sure wouldnt hurt to replace em... i always replace gaskets when i remove stuff.... just good habit i think.
and i would love to get a turbo for this thing but im also lookin at upgrading to a wrx...

Not entirely necessary to replace the gasket. Steve at Tousley Ford said I shouldn't have to replace the gasket ever unless it gets burnt up for some weird reason. Both the header-to-head gasket and header-to-cat gasket are metal, not some weak composite gasket that comes with most catbacks and the like. I've reused mine plenty of times with absolutely no leaks.

lol.... guess im wrong again...

yeah, i didnt have time to replace the gaskets. No leaks though =)
I might put some pics up tomorrow of the finished header. It didn't turn out too bad for my first time wrapping a header.

Is it difficult to get the header off the head and cat? I've considered wrapping my header but worry that I'll break a bolt trying to get the header off.

It's pretty damn easy to drop the header. It takes 15 - 20 min. It's true, though, that if your header has never been off the car, the cat studs and bolts could be rusted tight. Just get some 10mm nuts and bolts with lock washers in case you have to break them.

^^ yeah it was pretty easy. the only hard part was the bolts to the cat. Those were f-in tight. lol
