: SVT focus prices
vdubdoug 09-21-2010, 05:06 PM I have been looking at SVT focuses for a little bit now and man the prices are out of control. I looked at one today with 193k miles, Car was clean but had a few issues. First was the nearly bald tires , 2nd was the Ghetto system, 3rd was the ghetto exhuast with no muffler, APC tails, 1 new headlamp, one original, Parking brake didn't work, and the ABS and Brake light where on and he didn't know why. He is the 3rd owner and has no paperwork or history on it and only picked it up a few months ago. All this for a nice price of 4800.00
The car drove fine, but nearly stalled when coming to stop after a short drive down the block (has a Cold Air Induction). I was able to go through the gears and it felt as if it had a short shift kit and all was good there. Acceleration was good with no issues. Breaking seemed ok, but a little spongy (could be that it needs some brake work).

Even if I was to get it for $2500.00 I would be spending allot of money just to bring it back to a confident reliable daily driver in my eyes. I would be looking at a timing belt, tires, exhaust, and brake work before I would run it everyday.
your thoughts?
svt2nv04 09-21-2010, 05:19 PM I think that price is rediculous. But wow! 193,000 miles! I guess it's a 2002?
vdubdoug 09-21-2010, 05:29 PM Yes it is, then there is this one:

7k for a car that has no history. heck i asked if the belt or clutch was done and they don't know. I was seriously going to offer them 5k for the car if they replaced the clutch and timing belt.
Crazy!!!!
svt2nv04 09-21-2010, 05:41 PM It says 102,000 miles in the ad...
ETA: I just saw the pic of the odometer and it says 102,000.

That one is a different car. My computer wasn't working and i was having trouble editing my posts...sorry :)
vdubdoug 09-21-2010, 07:54 PM I wish i had 9k to spend. i am looking at spending 5000 to 6000
azdamay 09-21-2010, 08:35 PM I sold my way-better-condition-than-most 2002 SVT with 35,000 or so miles on it last October for $6,000 cash. Keep looking, don't overpay for someone's worn out crap heap.

I looked at a good number of SVTs before buying mine, and even mine wasn't exactly pristine or a stellar deal.
247_racing_zx3 10-05-2010, 05:25 AM I bought my 02 svt for $4,500. 160k miles, full suspension work.
tukaniSVT 10-07-2010, 07:04 AM My roommate bought his SVT for $1700 .. WHAT!?!??!
Well, it had 130K on the clock and was in a small front passenger side collision.
Thus far, rebuilding that side and getting it back to snuff (which it is now), it has cost him a little over $3500. That's including the $1700 he bought it for.
Things he fixed / replaced ... I helped a bit ... Saved on Labor
- Timing Belt
- Serpentine Belt
- Rack and Pinion for Passanger Side
- End Links (Both)
- Shock and Strut (stock for passenger)
- CV Joint
- Control Arm
- Passenger Fender
- Passenger Side Mirror
Now, its running real strong. Engine was in tip top shape. The original owner didn't do anything to the car. Older gentleman who used it for a daily for work and home. No racing.

01Lightning 10-07-2010, 02:11 PM paid 3100 for my 02 svt......kept watching the price drop on craigslist over 3 months, till one day i just lowballed and had cash in hand...said he had to pay for tuition and took it.
domesplit 12-08-2010, 01:16 PM I paid $5,500 for my 2003 SVT with 80,000 miles on it and the clutch was gone. But I live in Hawaii and didn't have much of an option for buying an SVTF. I had the clutch replaced and only a year and a half later I'm noticing an oily clutch pedal that makes my foot wanna slip off but other than that the car runs super fine. It was all stock and only had it's regular maintenance done on it.

That would be the clutch master cylinder, and ya better fix it before the brake fluid eats your carpet up:

Here is a link to a very nice one for sale right here at FF.com:
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243650
It is an '04 sonic blue 3 door in Green Bay WI. 73,000 miles, $6000. There are several hi-res pics in his ad. Wisconsin is a fairly short trip from Ohio...
BTW, I paid $6700 for my '04 pitch black 5 door euro with 58K miles in Oct...
felixthecat 12-11-2010, 09:22 PM You could also look at cars outside your area to you know! You could line up a few cars to look at & drive or fly over there & overnite it too. I've done that a 2 times now. Try finding a C/C F-350 4x4 7.3 w/ low mileage in great condition. I found a few in Florida. It really depends on condition/mileage. Have it trucked up from L.A. to Seattle is about $600. on their time. I know people, that helps. [cheers]
PiSTOLpete717 12-17-2010, 11:10 PM I paid $8000 for my 2002 SVT focus with 38,000 miles. The car is so clean it looks brand new I love it and beleive it was worth every penny... If I were you, I wouldn't buy one with more then 100,000 miles, ur just asking for problems then....
dirtbrown 12-18-2010, 12:54 AM shit...i paid 12k for my SVT almost 5 years ago.....these cars are loosing value like crazy and its a shame because once all the little stuff is tooken care of on these cars there really trouble free
Cheddar 01-04-2011, 01:09 AM Just 3 years ago, I paid $13,000 before TT&L for a 2004 Euro 5dr, w/46k miles. I couldn't get the dealer to drop his price at all, so after I waited over a week & called him, he said, "Oh, I was getting ready to call ya." Then he went on & on about everyone that was "coming in to buy that car" to make me sign the deal. He was a tool, but he knew that I wouldn't find this car anywhere else. Now it has 68k miles on it & I love having 1 of 29!

You do have a nice car, that's for sure !!

yea i agree, soon after i bought my car i had to fix the tail lights and intrument panel lights, but other then that it has been fantastic!
SVTF410 01-04-2011, 08:59 PM I got mine little over a year ago and paid 9k for it with 46k on the odometer. Now it has 73k and the only thing i have done is put a clutch in it and oil change every 5-6k. The problem with these cars is they are rare so everyone thinks they can ask whatever they want for them, that's why you see prices all the place. they usually sit on the lots forever before they sell. I bough mine 2 states away and it had been on there lot for 4 months. We had one at work just like mine that started at almost 10k and eventually dropped to 6k before they just sent it to auction
vaboom123 01-05-2011, 02:22 AM That's the tough thing with being a niche car. The market is small for it already to find the right buyer for it. Esp. one that has been modified kinda drops the value for me. That's the problem with modifying cars. I totally understand others put a boat load of money into a car, but some think they should get it all back.
It's like a highly modified integra with an asking price of 15k. Sure it's got a ton of money in it, but who's gonna pay a price like that? It's all in finding that right buyer these days.
