: 09 focus what hids
mikeyc1821 08-17-2010, 05:51 PM ok so i want to do the hid conversion kit to my car and as of right now am way to broke to buy the projector kit also, unless some one has a used set to sell...
question is, should i run 55w or 35w hids...
does anyone have a picture of the light throw in the stock housings?
sure sure i know its not legal for the street but i race a lot at night on a track so it wont be used at night on the road*
besides all that what kit do you guys recomend
FocusFreak09 08-17-2010, 05:56 PM Any of those watt kits should be fine. I have hids in my fogs and headlights so u should be fine. u can find them on ebay for cheap with warranty and theres also a vendor on here that sells them too.
mikeyc1821 08-17-2010, 06:00 PM which is better the 55 says its brighter at ddm... but the light color is differant or somthing... i want the whites brightest light output... im not a fan of the blue or purple color at all so what should i get
thanks for the quick response
jmiller_1974 08-17-2010, 06:31 PM For Your uses I would say 55W 4300K-6000K, using this as reference
http://www.whiplashauto.ca/images/colorchart1.jpg
FocusFreak09 08-17-2010, 06:31 PM i would ask the company what the difference is in the 2. If theres no difference then i wouldnt worry about it. Im not sure what mine are
andrewsfm 08-17-2010, 08:21 PM True 50W HIDs are harder to come by and don't have as long of a life as the 35W versions. I'd only trust VVME for true 50W HIDs.
In factory housings, I'd say stay away from 55W if you ever plan to drive the car on the road.
4300k will give you the most light but 6000k lights up signs and road markers better. Any other color has no advantage, just looks.
If you want to maintain high beam capability, get a bixenon kit. I'm actually looking to sell my bixenon bulbs, cause I'll be converting to projectors soon.
PhillyPhocus 08-17-2010, 09:51 PM I've seen most ff members recommending ddmtuning.com for HID kits, so I feel like that's probably the best bet for HID's. But with that being said, I have a '10 focus and need the dual filament bulbs for the headlights. So how do you actually order the dual filament bulbs as opposed to the single filament ones? Sorry if that's a really stupid question lol
p.s. bi-xenon and dual filament are the same thing when referring to HID's right?
andrewsfm 08-17-2010, 09:55 PM There's two types.
HIDs with halogen high beams and bixenon.
I've used both. I changed from halogen highs to bixenons.
I'd say halogen highs are useless, and to go with bixenon.
FuhFuh Focus 08-17-2010, 10:03 PM For stock housings I would only go with 35W, trust me they'll be plenty bright. Stick with somewhere in between 4300K-6000K if you want white. I do recommend ddmtuning for HIDs, you can get hi/lo bulbs. The prices are great and you get a lifetime warranty.
PhillyPhocus 08-17-2010, 10:36 PM Yea definitely don't wanna get halogen hi's, bi-xenon for me. Can someone post a link to bi-xenon bulbs for a '10 focus. I assumed the apexcone raptor hid kit was the basic hid kit on ddmtuning.com, but if that is the case I'm not sure how to actually order bi-xenon vs. regular bulbs. Can someone help me out?? Thanks!!
p.s. What is the purpose of the slim ballast on ddmtuning.com, is that better in any way?

Flow~cus 08-17-2010, 10:59 PM I got my HIDs off os AMAZON.COM and they were relatively cheap. Kensun HID's. I got the 8ks and put them in my fogs and i think it looks sick. And i paid less than 100 for them. Kensun is a good company.
Look em up. Amazon.com -- Kensun HID's[giddy]
andrewsfm 08-18-2010, 12:04 AM Just get these...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H4-9004-9007-H1-3-Bi-Xenon-Bixenon-Hi-Lo-HID-KIT-Dual-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ260639090151QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
You shouldn't have any issues with installation of these right out of the box and should be 100% plug and play, unless you have daytime running lights.
Lifetime warranty. I am currently using their bulbs with a custom made harness and ballasts from my old kit.
SlateTheGreat 08-18-2010, 03:23 AM Please don't do HIDs without projectors....there's not many things on the road more hated than those

Only difference with the slim ballast is that its smaller haha, easy to mount if you have to fit it in a tight spot.
The raptor kit is good, when you selecting your bulb size look next to the size, some of them should say (hi/lo).

Exactly the information I was looking for, thank you!! [thumb] I feel like an idiot for not realizing that the hi/lo bulbs were in the bulb size section. [slap] Do you think I need a slim ballast for mounting in a stock '10 focus (I plan on getting an fswerks cai so I don't know if that will affect my mounting space), or would I be fine with a raptor kit?
andrewsfm 08-18-2010, 08:02 PM There is TONS of room to mount the ballasts on the beam under the headlights on 08+. You don't need a slim ballast.
As for hi/lo like I said before, it's useless. Go bixenon.

Thats what I meant, im pretty sure they are bixenon.

Ok cool good to know, saves me a few bucks... 3 more questions and I'll leave everyone alone lol... are the hi/lo kits on ddmtuning halogen hi's or are they bi-xenon because I definitely want bi-xenon. Their website says that when u switch to hi-beams the bulb moves inward and changes the angle of the beam causing the beam pattern to change... I'm assuming that makes them bi-xenon right?
Second question, what exactly is the purpose of the HID harness? Does it affect the process of wiring the HID's or are they still plug and play, and do you recommend the harness for stock headlight and foglight housings?
Third and final question, there is a drop down menu on the ddmtuning website that says error code eliminator. The only option is type 3 and is 15.00. What the heck is that?????? Thanks everyone for your help!! [ffrocks]
andrewsfm 08-18-2010, 09:47 PM Couldn't say what DDM sells for hi/lo, but that description sounds like bixenon.
The harness takes away from the plug and play a bit, but is required for hi/lo kits and especially if you have DRLs (along with a capacitor).
Some kits come with the H13 connector on the end and the other that goes right into the ballast. Others will have some pins you need to push into your factory socket and electrical tape into place. Pretty ghetto but very common.
The installation guide for DDMs H13 hi/lo shows bixenon bulbs, and an H13 connector, so looks like this will pretty much be plug and play, unless you have DRLs.
Focus doesn't need the error code eliminator. It's for cars equipped with a "headlight burnt out" sensor.
FuhFuh Focus 08-18-2010, 09:53 PM Yeah you don't need the error code eliminator. I don't think you need the harness either, my hi/lo runs just fine with the wiring provided. Also yes they are bixenon I have them and they are HID hi and lo.
PhillyPhocus 08-19-2010, 06:36 AM Awesome, thank you both! Even if I have to push a few pins into the stock socket I don't mind, I just don't wanna have to do any cutting of factory wiring. I think I'm gonna order the 8k kits for my headlights and fogs today!
FuhFuh Focus 08-19-2010, 03:32 PM Sounds good. I have 8K I love themm.
PhillyPhocus 08-19-2010, 03:43 PM 8k is where it's at, I think I'm gonna go with 3k in the fogs though. I've been reading that higher kelvin hid's in fogs makes em kinda useless when you're actually trying to see in the rain and snow, and it snows ALOT where I'm at (or at least it did this past winter) so I kinda need em lol. BTW, I've heard ddmtuning takes a while to deliver, how long did it take everybody to get their's? I would imagine a while for me because I'm in PA, and they come from CA if I'm not mistaken.

Yes I have yellow fogs as well. They will do work on bad weather haha. As for delivery time, I ordered mine right after xmas, their busiest time of year and it took 3 weeks to get to my door. But I just ordered something else from them in July and I placed my order the beginning of the week and it was there by the weekend.

Great minds think alike lol... Good to know about the delivery time, I'm gonna order em now, and hopefully get em sometime next week (fingers are crossed!!)
FuhFuh Focus 08-19-2010, 04:09 PM Yeahh [thumb] Throw some pics up once you get them in.
