I am interested in black chrome FOCUS and SES badges for the trunk of my 2010. Anyone know if someone makes or sells these?

Update: Did a version of this, pics on page 2

I've never used nightshade. I would have to take the emblems all off to do that I assume? If I nightshade em do I have to prep them somehow?

ya remove them and just clean them real good with a mild dawn/water mix rince and dry then do a light coat of night shade let dry for about 20 min then if u want it darker do another light coat repeat untill u have the darkness you want then let dry over night then reattach to your car

If nite-shading I'd recommend first spraying it with adhesion promoter that's plastic safe.
But I'd test the nite-shade first as I've seen it come out in a green-hue, or a purple-hue.

Hmmm, good to know. The emblems are on with double sided tape I assume? I don't know if I'd be able to get them back on straight. I am kinda retarded with small detail work like that haha.

If you were real good at taping them off while on the car, you could leave them on. You would have to tape them real good plus cover all other parts of the car you do not want painted with over spray.

I gotta agree on getting them back on straight. If they were crooked, it would really show on our trunks.

I keep thinking about what you want to do, but.......oh well.

nite shades has a bit of a red-ish tint to it, or so i have heard. it becomes more of an issue when tinting clear lights, but that is most likely why it comes out odd colors.

I think your best bet would be to find a high gloss black paint and just use that.

It'll look like a crap rattle can job if you nite shade it, because it is.

Black chrome can be done with black nickel plating, but good luck finding someone who does it. The chemistry is tricky. The most common "black chrome" that you see is paint. My advice is to pull the emblems off and find a body shop that sprays black chrome on occasion. Having them mix up some paint just for you emblems isn't practical, if they'd even do it. Leave them with the shop, or have them call you when they're going to spray someone's wheels or whatever. That's the only way they'll come out looking right.

Sounds like this might be more work than it is worth. I think it would look sweet but I can live with it the way it is.

De-badge it and forget it.

I actually like the badges so I plan on keeping em. Just would prefer them in black chrome.

You know another option is to have a body shop use really thinned out black and then clear coat. Would probably cost 40-50 bucks and look way better.

I don't have any experience nite-shading or tinting chrome. A member, I believe Brad White, has done such a thing. I'll see if I can dig up his post about it.

EDIT - Ah, ha...here we go. Read post #5, lol: http://focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=185895

I went to a local vinyl shop to see what they had to say about it. They told me they could tint the emblems and he showed me a metallic/reflective type black tint. It actually kinda looked brown when he pulled it out. He took a piece and placed it over my emblem to show me the effect.

Well, I decided to go ahead and do it. Didn't cost much at all. Also tinted the third brake light while I was at it.

The pics don't quite do it justice but it looks pretty decent.

fyi your local O'reilly store now carries "black chrome" spray painting kit. it comes with a can of the actual paint and a can of clear for around 20$. its kind of like vht night shades...only chrome based and is only used on chrome parts. will not have the same effect on a non-chrome surface

I love how this looked, adds a nice "performance model" look to it. I think once you lower your car, with all the black badges and bits and the stripes on the wheels, this will look like our model's svt :-P

I think it would look good.

If my tint every gets messed up I might try and paint the emblems. I would never get em on straight if I took em off so I would have to paint them on the car. Frankly the overspray scares me. [paranoid]

night shade comes off chrome really easily...

to do the emblems really really good, spray a few layers of night shade and then take your time and polish it off of the chrome... i had to do the front of mine twice by completly taking off my first attempt... when done right, it looks great!!! i have some pics somewhere, ill see if i can find the thread....

http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=232115

scroll down a bit and you'll see it... i did what brad white did.. i also put a couple coats of clear coat on the front... didnt do it on the back because i didn't like how it was coming out and was tired of working on it...
