: Help with buying a SVT??
drummer829 06-20-2010, 02:12 PM hey everyone, im in the market for a svt and i found one that im going to look at today. just wondering if you guys could maybe take a look at it and as owners/enthusiasts let me know if it looks ok. my dad has a focus svt now, so i know how they are suppose to drive, but itd be good to have more opinions...my dads also is only 67k miles, so i was wondering if any of you have had problems with your svt's approaching the 100k mark and up? http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/1795829388.html
2010_SES 06-20-2010, 03:05 PM He knew to change the timing belt so it seems as if he has kept up on maintenance.
ViperThreat 06-20-2010, 06:25 PM That price is a bit high for that kind of mileage, but it does look to be in decent condition from the pics.
1turbofocus 06-20-2010, 07:20 PM I may have a SVT for sale with a fresh built engine , black 110,000 little rough around the edges but will take 3500.00 for it , has the later euro SVT wheels with like new tires

mlbbaseball 06-20-2010, 09:21 PM what internals did u use tom?
drummer829 06-20-2010, 10:03 PM well i test drove it..the aftermarket clutch is weird compared to the stock for sure..the clutch rattles a bit but doesnt when its pushed in. he claims he bought it like that, and has never had any problems with anything. and also says the aftermarket spec clutches tend to do that. im also going to have my mazda mechanic friend check it out as well, put it up on the lift and make sure its ok..CEL is on but claims to be from the high flow cat. but all around its a very nice car. drove it and it went into 1st through 6th just fine. picked up, handled, and felt just like my dads svt, so i maybe becoming a member of your community soon if everything checks out =)
yzdude250f 06-21-2010, 12:01 AM If the car has an aftermarket clutch with a lighter aluminum flywheel there will be some chatter.
drummer829 06-21-2010, 01:29 AM im not sure about the flywheel, but would you tihnk it will hold up ok?
04SVTFreak 06-21-2010, 08:52 AM i wouldnt pay more than 6k for that car, its a 02 and doesnt even have the hid's. i have never heard of a high flow cat throwing cel codes. i would have the code read before continuing further.
also, 78k is a little early for timing belt, but i guess thats not a bad thing.
1turbofocus 06-21-2010, 08:53 AM I didnt build it , It was built with forged pistons , arp , stock SVT rods

Earls32 06-21-2010, 10:45 AM If the seller does not have a problem run a commpresson test on it

what would you define as rough around the edges? 2 dr or 4 dr? heated seats/traction control? tia.

F1SportsFan 06-23-2010, 11:38 PM I agree the price is too high. I wouldn't pay more than $5.5K for it. Lots of minor stuff needs replacing when you get close to 100k, but the timing belt is the main item. Make sure there is a receipt for that. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
Also, I have a high flow Cat and no CEL on my car. You should get the code read, usually can do it for free at O'Rilley or Checker.
