e85 you need to be VERY carefull with , There are still NO Fed regulations in place yet to regulate the octane , if when you tune you get 98octane then 8 fillups later you get 94 your going to be in trouble big time

There also seems to be some issues in some cars about the fuel eating on fuel lines , pumps, rails etc but dont hear it as much anymore

this is me and my E85 kit i got off line www.whitelightning.net and my dad has been running it in our expedition for over a year and have 0 problems with it concerning the fuel lines and such but so far my car has been overall running much more smooth and feels like there is a slight power increase. As far as MPG loss there is a noticable amount i got 31mpg all day before on 93 and now E85 i am getting about 28

I looked at your devise and wasent impressed if all it does is plug into your injectors adding more fuel I am guessing once you hit a gived Inj Duty cycle

Problem id reguardless of what you hook in line the ECU can correct and over come these types of devises and the reason your getting crappy MPG is because they are not addressing anything in the tune itself , e85 takes diff timing , a diff targeted stoich AF for idle , cruise and WOT

Idle and cruise is done in open loop and they could tell the Inj to add 50% and if it is to rich the ECU will pull out fuel ad meet the targeted AF in the tune

You also I am guessing ar not running your car hard , Like with your Dads car just cruising around you would really see the effect of the lower octane

Doing quick math by the MPG you are loosing with the cost of the unit your not saving much if any money by using it

Not only that, but E85 produces LESS energy when burned than gas..

But if it gives you that all-over "goody" feeling for using it, go for it..

i actually just got 26mpg on my last tank and paid 2.15 for E85 while the same gas station is 2.94 for 93 so i am saving 27% in costs and lost about 17% in mpg so i am technically saving money

Now figure that math with 87 , If were going to do trash fuel lets not compare it to good 93 , lets do apples to apples

Then factor in the cost of the unit over 3 years and 87 and I think you will find your not saving anything , not even taking into the account the hugh loss of performance because your not tuned for e85

even with 87 octane it is still 60 cents less per gallon although....my car has felt nothing but improvements with all E85, much more smooth idle and when i accelerate and shift it feels like it keeps pulling. My buddy has your tune one his svt and it feels similar to that

The cost of the unit was ? 3MPG less thats a loss of 1.2 -1.5 gallons per tank so what about $3.00 -3.50 per fill up loss

How many fillups do you do a week?

I think his unit was about 60 bucks.

see i have heard that with the right kit you actually make power. my boss is an evo guy and he says that there are evos doing this mod(dont know what kit) and picking up 30 HP.

i know SVTs are very picky so im assuming that you would need a new tune. and i am leaning towards getting Toms tune soon. so i just wanted to basically know if tom has dealt with this or done any research on it.

I have done a LOT with e85 and I will not do a tune for it because the octane is NOT regulated by big brother and until it is the fuel is to unpredictable to use form tank to tank and has cost MANY engines

ok thats what i wanted to kno. you would think with how big the bay area california is with being green they would have more e85 stations and have it regulated

in my opinon if you have the stations around you it is worth it

A good friend of mine tunes Evos on a regular basis. When they're actually tuned for it, 20 or 30 hp is normal, but that's not a plug in device. Tom had it right. There's a lot that needs to be adjusted. It also makes a lot more difference on boosted cars. I don't see it being worth the hassle and risk for just a slight gain.

Also, if you ever want to make an Evo driver jealous, show them how well your brakes work compared to their fancy brembos. That's another thread, but it's still something to be proud of.
