: Have a few JRSC questions
kjsoccerdude 06-14-2010, 03:10 PM Well...my Turbo build was canceled because of funds. I was planning on selling all my Turbo build stuff and just putting the money towards paying off my car. But then I was presented the option of a cheap JRSC + SVT header and went for it. So now I've got a few questions about it.
1. Seeing as the intake part is more in the same spot as on the SVT, will an SVT CAI work on just the regular Zetec JRSC? I've heard they push a lot of hot air and I wanna cool it off if at all possible.
2. I'm going with the SVT header because it's proven to be the best. Will wrapping it do anything other than reduce engine bay heat levels?
3. Any guesses at what my power levels will be? I'll have the JRSC, SVT Header set up, 2.5" stainless exhaust, 5.7" CFM OD Pulley, and some type of CAI. What do you guys think my whp will be?
4. What else could I add that won't cost me an arm and a leg to get a little more power out of this set up?
Randori 06-14-2010, 03:29 PM The blower will be a source of heat in the engine bay, so to cool it off, you need to lower the ambient temps lower than the blower itself.
Wrapping the header keeps the temps lower and that is HUGE when it comes to fighting heat soak. Cutting back the biggest source of heat, the header, will be the biggest thing you can probably do.
You get a 180 degree thrermostat, bigger radiator and maybe even wrapping the intake pipe to protect it a little more.

you want to use the SVT air box, or other "box" style short ram, JRSC dont like to work for its air, and the SVT airbox was proven to make the most HP by oscar jackson himself.
I ran the volant on my old JRSC setup.
2. I'm going with the SVT header because it's proven to be the best. Will wrapping it do anything other than reduce engine bay heat levels?
yes, wrap it or have it coated.
3. Any guesses at what my power levels will be? I'll have the JRSC, SVT Header set up, 2.5" stainless exhaust, 5.7" CFM OD Pulley, and some type of CAI. What do you guys think my whp will be?
185'ish.....are you running the BBK and the OD pulley? if so..then DONT, pick one or the other, but not BOTH.
4. What else could I add that won't cost me an arm and a leg to get a little more power out of this set up?
a real tune, not the black box crap or powercard that came with it.
kjsoccerdude 06-14-2010, 07:19 PM Thanks for the input so far guys. I forgot to mention I'll be having Tom tune it. And thanks for the info on not running both the BBK pulley and the CFM one.
mlbbaseball 06-14-2010, 07:51 PM I thought John Disproved that CAI thing. he gained like 7 whp over the stock airbox for the SVT on a JRSC w/ BBK. i'll try to find the link. it was a myth
badass3 06-14-2010, 08:36 PM i would run both the bbk and overdrive that is what it is meant for.
wrap the header. put it this way you touch a coated header when it is hot and you go to Hospital, touch a wrapped on adn you can sit your hand on it for a couple seconds.
mlbbaseball 06-14-2010, 08:40 PM true, but if you run both, u'll have to use WMI
badass3 06-14-2010, 09:17 PM Wmi?
VenomRogue 06-14-2010, 09:22 PM true, but if you run both, u'll have to use WMI
Wmi?
water meth injection.
i would run both the bbk and overdrive that is what it is meant for.
.
...if you use both, you get dangerously close to the actual superchargers RPM redline, trust me I know...it is NOT worth it.
not to mention, anything over what the BBK puts out is just moving more heat, even with WMI, its not worth it....I was one of the very few to get over 200whp with that little m45, and my valves didnt like me very much after i melted one in half, pushing around 15lbs of boost thru that over sized hair dryer.
and the SVT airbox is the best intake for the JRSC, i chose the volant, because I wanted to hear the blower whine, lost about 3-5whp, but it was no matter to me.
badass3 06-14-2010, 09:32 PM ok the I screwed me up i always see it as W/M
ok so just bbk.

kjsoccerdude 06-15-2010, 11:49 AM Thanks for all the input guys. Seeing as I'll be getting the CFM OD pulley with the SC I'll be using that. I think I'll go with the SVT intake set up seeing as it's proven to work well. I'll be wrapping the SVT header for sure.
So along with Tom's tune, any guesses at what my whp and wtq will be around? I'm hoping for 180+ but I guess we'll wait and see.

Won't fit. I thought the same thing and ended up wasting my money on one.
4. What else could I add that won't cost me an arm and a leg to get a little more power out of this set up?
I was going to say an Overdrive pulley, but you already mentioned that. I'd say an ignition upgrade or cam gears.

thats all great....for a turbo.
i dont feel like searching for it, but Oscar Jackson himself made a post about the different intakes for the JRSC (at the time the Volant wasnt around). He tested open element short rams, an AEM cold air, stock air box, stock SVT air box, and I think even the K&N FIPK.
The SVT airbox made the most power, dyno proven. The only "drawback" was less blower whine.
kjsoccerdude 06-16-2010, 11:37 AM So for those of you who have a JRSC or have had one and used a boost gauge, where do you source it? When you install the SC you completely remove the IM don't you? Are there any ports on the SC for a vac source?
disciplerocks 06-16-2010, 01:01 PM Mine had a plug on the back of the manifold, but mine was used and may have been installed by previous owner.
02_svt_guy 06-16-2010, 01:03 PM I would like to know what kind of power people are making with different intake's on jrsc
SVT and Zetec
disciplerocks 06-16-2010, 01:13 PM Here is what I am using. Got it from a v8 Ford at the junkyard. Never dynoed so I don't have any numbers for you.

kjsoccerdude 06-16-2010, 01:38 PM Nice looking set up. How was the install for you? I'm wondering how easy/hard it's going to be.
disciplerocks 06-16-2010, 02:41 PM It depends on the kit. Mine was missing damn near all the bolts. I got a parts list that was supposed to be in the kit and went to hardware store and bought all new bolts. Spent about 40 bucks. Other than that, the install is pretty straight forward. Took me about 5 hours. Then about 6 months to track down vacuum leaks and get it tuned lol.

kjsoccerdude 06-16-2010, 07:34 PM I hope mine works out good. I should track down a list like that and find all the bolts some time here.
In other news, I got my SVT header and flex pipe today. Now I need to decide if I want to go with the SVT cat or an ORP.
mlbbaseball 06-16-2010, 10:15 PM i'll tell you right now, the ORP will be loud, very loud. a turbo muffles the sound, a SC increases it. i rode in CarDemon's JRSC'd auto, its a very nice car btw, one of the nicest i've been in. but its loud. you will want more resonators. but you will get more power for sure!!
badass3 06-16-2010, 10:19 PM glad the header came in. make sure you wrap it and not coat it. keep that heet down. I am still trying to get that intake for u
iceberg65 06-16-2010, 10:43 PM For my intake its a short ram right now but I plan on building a heat shield/ airbox around it and ducting a 4" tube to the fender when I have the time.
But I built it using full mandrel 3" piping and a 3" MAF tube; with a K&N on the end I figured going 3" on everything would keep my flow nice and even. pics are in here http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/showthread.php?t=227736&highlight=jrsc+cougar

disciplerocks 06-16-2010, 11:39 PM i'll tell you right now, the ORP will be loud, very loud. a turbo muffles the sound, a SC increases it.
Exactly why I went with my 4-1 header and not a 4-2-1. It doesn't put out as much hp, but it replaced the cat with a resonator so I didn't have to have one welded on later.
kjsoccerdude 06-17-2010, 01:30 AM How much power would I be losing by using the SVT cat over an ORP?
