: Ive lost 5 PSI...where did it go?
horsePOOGAS 05-26-2010, 07:03 PM Alright so Ill start by saying tom has been tuning my car for 15 PSI. Doing a log today on a new tune, I am only seeing 10 PSI... WTF? Ive done a glance at things and I dont see anything out of place
So this is where everyone else comes in. Ive herd of a leak down test but I have no idea how to go about doing it and if i even know what im talking about for that matter lol
anyone have any ideas?
Im running Toms kit, evolution wastgate, greddy BOV and greddy spec II EBC.
Ive tried turning up my EBC up just a bit to see if anything changed and nothing new.
OH last thing, when I do hit 10 PSI I will see my boost gauge "flutter" but not very much. just moves fast up and down and stays really close to 10 PSI.
help!!
mlbbaseball 05-26-2010, 07:26 PM is one of couplers not tight? my guess is through the IC piping and you have a leak there. maybe a hole in the Intercooler?
03OrangeSVT 05-26-2010, 07:50 PM Maybe your turbo went on a diet????
Sounds like a definite boost leak.
horsePOOGAS 05-26-2010, 08:14 PM well I just did a test that tom had me do. Its not for the faint of heart but I unhooked my WG and do a WOT run. I watched my boost gauge and I went straight to 15 PSI at about 5-5500 RPMS. So I know my turbo can make it and my WG is sealing.
So either Ive got a leak somewhere in the plumbing or Tom has also suggested my BC could be acting up. Ill start with the piping and work my way around.
forcedfocus 05-27-2010, 08:52 AM 5k that sounds late, what turbo are you running?
horsePOOGAS 05-27-2010, 10:40 AM Toms comp turbo.
If I do have a leak, wouldn't it be late?
I've had a coupler thats been giving me problems...it likes to pop off when underboost. I thought I fixed it but I'm wondering if it's giving me more trouble. I'll check it tonight when I get home.
do a boost leak test. this is basic.
pitchedblack04 05-27-2010, 01:27 PM I will concur with above. It sounds pretty big if your only making 15psi at 5k. Esp on that turbo.
horsePOOGAS 05-27-2010, 03:42 PM I asked in my original post how a guy would go about doing that. plug one end and stick a blow gun in the other? lol
badass3 05-27-2010, 04:11 PM turn the car on and feel for leaks maybe have someone rev a little just like exhaust
pitchedblack04 05-27-2010, 04:30 PM Oh i think we thought you were going to do that. You can either pull your filter off your turbo or pull the coupling on the outlet of the turbo and rig somethin up that will fit inthere with a air hose fitting. Pvc works great. Block off the end of the piping where it goes into your TB. then pressureize it with air. Sometimes your wont be able to tell if you have a leak in a coupling until you have pressure in your piping. If thats kinda vague you can search on the net. Ive found good write ups before.
horsePOOGAS 05-27-2010, 04:55 PM no that sounds great. thats pretty much what I had in mind that you would have to do but I wanted to be sure there wasnt another way or w/e. Thanks for the advice guys. Ill keep things posted.
iroc34 05-28-2010, 12:06 PM Hey Check these out. http://www.siliconeintakes.com/index.php?cPath=8&osCsid=419191e9793d5de382ca4e516e4390f8
I think this will help.
pitchedblack04 05-28-2010, 12:55 PM I made one of those out of scrap from the garage
horsePOOGAS 05-28-2010, 08:04 PM Cool link. Ill keep that in mind, tho I to can make something like that so its nice to have an idea lol
But I did some more mess'n around today. I turned off my EBC and ran off my WG spring. I made 10 psi. I did this run 4 times in a row and made the same pressure. I turned the EBC back on for the 5th time, same...10 psi. Im not finding anything wrong in my piping. So im going to shim my wastegate to 15psi. This will tell me for sure if I do infact have a leak in my piping or somewhere. If I shim and can get to 15... then Im going to point my finger at the EBC that I have.
Gonna try this tomorrow sometime and see what happens.
horsePOOGAS 05-29-2010, 06:10 PM So I shimmed my WG today. I bought 5 fender washers from a local hardware store lol they worked pefectly to fit inside the WG just like the shims would that come with the WG (which by the way I never got any with mine)
So long story short I made a constant 14 PSI. I did three runs to make sure I made the same PSI... 14. which is close enough to 15PSI. Im pointing my finger at my EBC. which is a profec B II controller. I think Ill search for a type S controller and be done with it.
bmylez 05-29-2010, 06:44 PM Looks like the Profec B is just as crappy as John said it was [:)]
1turbofocus 05-29-2010, 07:24 PM been saying the specII is junk for years
Tom
horsePOOGAS 05-29-2010, 08:37 PM what actually makes the profec B crap? I went out on a limb and bought this thing new less then a year ago and it takes a dump on me...so Im curious as to why they go stupid or what part or w/e goes bad?
