: My first HDR attempt(56k stay away)
bringler26 04-29-2010, 08:25 PM Here is my first attempt at HDR. They're not the best but I think they came out ok for not having a tripod. I just took pictures if some random stuff laying around on my desk. Let me know what you think.

bringler26 04-29-2010, 11:25 PM Uhmmmm......
I was bored on a Thursday night[giddy].
andrev001 04-29-2010, 11:59 PM I tried to do inside the house shots and make them HDR but it newer worked for me. I prefer outside pictures. My attempt ;)

focuzed1 04-30-2010, 12:08 AM i think they look sweet.. i would love to learn how to do that..
tukaniSVT 04-30-2010, 12:44 AM All you need is a good camera that you have control of the exposure and Photoshop.
what happens is you take 3 (or more) shots at different Exposure Levels (EV). Then bring them into Photoshop and under the file you should see where it states HDR (High Dynamic Range). There are tweaks in this setting once you do it.
With your wife's camera, focuzed1, you should be able to do this easy.
For the OP, I would recommend a good tripod or set the camera down and use the timer button. That way your hands aren't touching the camera. As steady as people think they are, there will always be a bit of shake from your heart rate.
Or, Breath Slow, then take the photo.

bringler26 04-30-2010, 12:45 AM Dude andrev001 those look really sweet. I would have gone outside but it was getting dark so it would not have been worth it.

Thanks for the tip. I have a tripod just not here at school. I just sat the camera down on my desk to take the picture. I'll use the timer on the camera next time too. I noticed in the one that you could tell the camera moved from where it was for the other two pictures.

You would be surprised how nice are HDR night pictures. Google it... Sample I found ;)

bringler26 04-30-2010, 02:50 PM Wow when I'm at home and have a tripod I will definitely try some night shots. I'll also be able to use my parents camera which is way more adjustable than my $80 point and shoot. I forget what it is but its a Higher end Kodak.
focuzed1 04-30-2010, 05:34 PM are there any specific exposure levels to use when you set the level for the camera? and do you have to have a tripod to do this? i figure that you do..
bringler26 05-01-2010, 12:35 AM A tripod is going to be a must just so you can get the same exact picture as the previous one. If you notice my pictures kind of appear blurry it is because they are not the exact same picture so when they over lap they don't line up correctly causing the fuzziness. As for exposure settings I can't say there is a specific choice to use. I used +2,0,-2 for my exposure settings, but that is because of what my camera limits me too.
here are 2 links that I found helpful.

Also here is my latest attempt.

If you notice its very blurry that is due to me moving the camera slightly on each picture also you can see where cars drove through in the back ground. I'm using paint.net for my photo editing and I'm still learning all of its features so that doesn't help either.

andrev001 05-01-2010, 01:17 AM You must to invest in better tripod, that's for sure ;).
Another thing. You know already that to make HDR picture you need at least 3 pictures in different exposures. -2, 0 and +2 at least. Now when you put these pictures together, you should be able to see a lot of details. In your photo the whole sky is white. You doing something wrong. I managed ( thanks to Photoshop plug in ) to make HDR picture from your original photo. Read again and practice, practice, practice...

Like I said I have one at home but that 2.5hrs from school so I don't really have access to it. I need to learn how to use the features on paint.net better as it doesn't have a create HDR photo option like photoshop. I just layered the pictures and made no further adjustments. I'll go play around with it now and see what I can figure out. Thanks for the advice!
here this looks much better. I changed the contrast some and adjust some of the luminosity curve and got a better result. Still not the best but much better than the previous one.

andrev001 05-01-2010, 11:06 AM Download and install this. It's a very good program. You can find a lot of information about how to use it on the net and I think you gonna have better results with this software.

I redid it with the program you showed me. it came out much better. I can't wait till I get some more pictures to play with when I have the tripod.

tukaniSVT 05-04-2010, 09:28 AM Very nice. You did a good job with the park ones; a bit canted but good.
I like HDR that isn't overprocessed.
And andrev, why are you getting a plug-in for PS? PS should have the HDR plug already built in.

bringler26 05-04-2010, 10:12 AM Thanks for the complements tukani. I'm home right now so I think I'm going to grab the tripod.

andrev001 05-04-2010, 09:04 PM Very nice :)
bringler26 05-04-2010, 09:51 PM I can't wait till I have time to just spend a few hours going around and taking pictures. I can't wait for more flowers and trees to bloom and for a less windy day to take pictures on.
andrev001 05-04-2010, 09:56 PM WOW That's the spirit. And I like the way you said that, so inspiring ;)
bringler26 05-04-2010, 11:11 PM I've really started to enjoy photography in the past couple months. I'm going to attempt a night shoot sometime too.
I couldn't believe how much easier it was when I used the tripod today. It took me less than half the time and I even was doing 5 different exposures for each one rather than just three too see the difference it would make using the couple extra.
Here is the link I'll post the better ones here:http://s459.photobucket.com/albums/qq312/bringler26/HDR%20attempts/

focuzed1 05-07-2010, 03:29 AM well i just did my first hdr.. but for some reason it will not let me post it on photobucket.. its on my cp.. but when i try to find it on photobucket to upload it... its not there.. idk.. i actually like it too...
bringler26 05-07-2010, 06:22 PM Its probably not saved in the right format. Open the file and click save as and save it as a jpeg or bitmap file. That should fix your problem.

What did you use to edit the photos? It almost seems like they didn't overlap eachother
