: First turbo'd car ?s

So ive been a guest on this forum for quite some time but ive decided to join so i can actually post and ask the questions i wanna know haha but anywho. I want to boost my focus but its atx and thats my main concern ive looked into lantech but out of curiosity could the atx handle the stage one Fswerks kit, F2 kit or am i better of trying to piece together a low boost kit myself.? If so how long could it handle it? Also all stock internals. Thanks ahead of time.

what kit you buy or make isnt going to make a difference on how well your tranny handles the power....boost controllers ftw!
with just a turbo kit and nothing crazy for power the atx should be able to handle it, but a tune is definitely recommended

Oh trust me im well aware that im gonna have to keep the psi low and of course the ecu is gonna need a massive tuning im just curious if i was to run one of those kits only runnin say 8 psi daily driving will my atx and engine be able to handle it. And what kit or custom set up would be safe enough but still create power.

220-230tq is pushing your atx. So depending on your turbo you should be good only running 8lbs or so... I would deff look into upgrading it also tho...

The FSwerks stg 1 kit on the auto tranny should be fine. I think its been said that the atuo tranny can take up 220hp(?) without issues.
I knew I was close. Posted at the same time as above.

so pitched do you believe the car could handle fswerks stage 1 as a daily driver or will that be just to much to often for it? Also do any of yall have an opinion for a custom set up i could run that may be safer than the stage 1 possible less pricey?

You would be hard pressed to piece together a kit for less than that.
I personally would get the stage 2 so you have room to grow. Keep the boost low then if funds allow, get a built auto.

i know intercoolers are wonderful but since im keeping the boost in a single digit would that kid of diminish the value? So why would i need the stage 2?

The intercooler is going to help your car run much more consistently and safer.
I recently added an intercooler to my "stage 1" setup, and the intake air temps dropped at least 30 degrees in normal driving. Without the intercooler, the IAT's would consistently be 30 degrees over ambient just driving down the freeway. Under boost, they would shoot up another 20-30 degrees in a few seconds. I'm sure they would just keep climbing if I kept my foot in it.
With the intercooler, the IAT's stay right at ambient, and even under boost they barely climb and much more slowly. This is running the same psi(8) as before the intercooler.
You are in AZ, so I assume you see some hot days, and the intercooler will really help keep the power and reduce the risk of detonation.

Thanks for the insight i guess it all comes back to my orignal quest will my atx be able to hand a constant 8 psi for daily driving?

Yes, definitely. You just need your shift points and shift speed adjusted.

If you plan to do more later go with a turbo, but if you just want a little pep to make your ride a little more fun then I would suggest getting a Jackson Racing Supercharger. It is designed to run with stock engine and is cheaper than a turbo kit. They are used ones for sale on here all the time.

haha its ok.... Did you finally get your car running?

Its running very well right now. Still tuning. Just gotta tune for WOT and I'll be done, but after that I got some upgrades to make. Overdrive pulley and 42# injectors.

Yeah I missed SIF so I was kinda hoping for something to pop up mid summer.
This thread is going off on a tangent.

Okay if you want to go with the F2 kit I say go ahead. I'm running stage 2 with my manual. You can go stage 2 and not install the boost controller. That way the wastegate will be the only thing controlling your boost and keep it at 8 psi which will be fine for your ATX. I would go with Toms tuning if you buy the F2 kit.

Even tho i got thread jacked haha. Thanks for your insight i really apprechiate it.
