: MT.Rushmore Focus 2005!!!
RS-wagon 08-23-2004, 03:11 PM Now that the first Mt. Rushmore G2G is history. What about the 2nd annual Mt.Rushmore Focus 2005???
This one I will make. I figured to start now so we might get somemore people to attend.
let's figure out when we want it.
Do we want it around the same time?
we can do fliers? Don't worry about printing cost I can get many done cheap. color or B&W.
Now we can look into shirts, Etc
let's here some ideas
Tim
_Celldweller 08-23-2004, 04:37 PM I think the Aug 20 and 21 (Sat and Sun) next year would be good. We should definately have a set schedule this time around too. We spent too much time waiting around and doing non-Focus things.
Not that I mind that so much, but that's not what the whole G2G was ment to be. If anyone wants to do the go-karts, go sight seeing, gamble in Deadwood, etc... show up early on Friday. Of course we'll head out to Rushmore and get a group pic in that top parking lot. We definately need to hit Skyline Drive several times and do Iron Mountain Road as well.
Dingaling will have to do some research and talk to the right people so we can get an autocross set up for us too. I wouldn't mind heading to Deadwood and hitting the drag strip either. That's all I have for now.
RS-wagon 08-23-2004, 08:41 PM Well For Autocross that would be me, as I know who to contect. As a former member of the black hills sports car club. I will check with them but they may even have an event on the Aug 21. as they usually have an event acouple weeks after the rally.
Yeah, We will have the schedule set for the event.
Tim
Shady R 08-23-2004, 10:06 PM NO aug 21 and 22 is a bad time. It's still tourist season. After the 23 of Aug the tourist season is over and the prices every where in rapid drop drasticly. I would say
Aug 28,29 would be perfect
Shady R 08-23-2004, 10:57 PM So RS Wagon what happend to those prizes donated to the G2G? And what happend to you?
RS-wagon 08-24-2004, 04:19 PM I couldn't make it. WD-40 was going to give them away and let me know who won what.
Tim
_Celldweller 08-24-2004, 06:35 PM I think he wanted to know exactly why you didn't make it. Anyway Aug. 27 and 28 (Sat and Sun) sounds perfect if you ask me.
kcZTS03 08-25-2004, 12:52 PM that one i may actually be able to make, i was to busy and broke as all hell to make this one when is the next gtg in s.f
Shady R 08-25-2004, 08:34 PM Celldweller when is the next G2G in SiouxFalls. Well maybe when I get my front bumber repaired and the front and rear painted.
_Celldweller 08-25-2004, 11:10 PM Crap I don't know... when do you want it to be?
Whew! I'm baaaack!
We modified our plans, and spent an extra day on the road.
Wow! You've ALL got to do Hwy 14 and 14alt in Wyoming out of Sheridan, through Powell, and ending up in Cody.
Awesome road.[:D]
And then, there's 120 and 296 out of Cody, WY to Cooke City, MT.
Talk about IronMt or Skyline Drive for 100's of miles.[thumb]
No traffic either. Dang that was fun!
Oops, got off-topic. Sorry about that.
I'm not sure when the 2day TopGun Challenge AutoCross (Great Falls) is next year,
but I have a hunch it's on the same weekend you're talking about for the 2005 G2G.
I'll find out this weekend, as it's this year's TopGun Challenge on the 28th and 29th.
They usually do it the weekend before Labor Day.
As far as Motel prices, some are still up there till after the Labor Day holiday.
Any takers for the weekend after Labor Day?
zincyellowfocus 08-30-2004, 10:15 AM Not really sure what my work schedule will be in a year, but I will definitely be trying to make a trip with the wife next year. We love to drive, and this year wasn't going to happen with us trying to plan our wedding, me starting my new job, and trying to find an aprtment for us in the meantime. I would suggest that we meet somewhere in the middle of Mid West, since we have some northern folks in S.D. and some southern folks in CO, so maybe somewhere in Wy would bring more people to next years G2G. Just a suggestion, but I'd try and tackle the location first before we get committed to dates.
_Celldweller 08-30-2004, 11:53 AM What's the title of this thread?
RS-wagon 08-30-2004, 07:13 PM Jeff, I am going to smak you this weekend [spank] [spank] , just thought I would let you know that. [whip]
Tim
zincyellowfocus 08-31-2004, 07:53 AM I was only suggesting a different meeting place, looking at how many people showed up to this year's event, and I suggested that even though you guys might be set on Mt. Rushmore, you would draw a bigger crowd if you held it a little more south. Tim, your getting a major whacking on Saturday (if you come.....) [chair] [chair] [chair]
OT: Hmmmm.
There's a lot of Smack Talk going on here.
Exactly where is this event on Saturday?
We'll see who smacks whom![:D]
Seriously, we've got a whole boat-load of company heading our way for the holiday,
so there's no way I'd be able to get down your direction.
OTOH, most of these visitors are in-laws....[eek]....hmmm.[:D]
I will be going to an AutoCross in Missoula on Monday though.
Thought I'd let my bro co-drive the SVTF with me.
Shady R 09-01-2004, 12:07 AM So Aug 28,29th it is. Glad we all came up with the same answer. CELL I thought the post was some thing about the 05 G2G in Rush more. Or general chat lounge. What ever I guess.
_Celldweller 09-01-2004, 03:23 AM yeah i know... but
"I would suggest that we meet somewhere in the middle of Mid West, since we have some northern folks in S.D. and some southern folks in CO, so maybe somewhere in Wy would bring more people to next years G2G. That's why I (being the ass that I am) asked that OBVIOUS question. And the obvious answer would be "MT.Rushmore Focus 2005!!!" Of course we're having it the same place next year and the next and the next...
_Celldweller 09-01-2004, 03:27 AM BTW sorry zinc... I know you're just trying to help out and make this thing bigger.
zincyellowfocus 09-01-2004, 08:22 AM Cell-Yeah, I got your humor, just making an observation. I'm an engineer w/ an engineering mind, if I see a problem, I look for the root cause and try to fix it. [:D] I'll still come next year if nothing is going on at work, regardless of where it will be, I just know a few people that didn't go simply because it was too far of a drive for the weekend. Still had fun I bet, and that's all that matters at G2G's.[clap] I'm new here, so I won't step on anybody's toes (yet).
Oh, and as far as laying the smackdown on Tim, he's coming down all the way from Wyoming to Denver to see me install my Vortech this weekend. A bunch of us will be at my shop doing this on Saturday, Sunday, and Labor Day if need be. Should be hella fun![headbang]
Shady R 09-01-2004, 12:10 PM OK I all ready don't like him.. Vortec.. Last thing I want to see on a car or a focus is a Vortec. Couse that means he will be faster than me, WD40, me, Dingaling and me oh yah did I mention me, me, me, and me. haha kidding. I would like to see pics from under that hood when your done. Hey look I'm an Engineer to, what do you do exactly zincyellowfocus? Oh yah don't let CELLS negative attitude discurage you,(haha) any help or opinions are appreciated. Cell give the man a chance to speak, geez.haha MMMMMMMMGH what ever.
_Celldweller 09-01-2004, 12:42 PM And I thought I was the ass here
So Aug 28,29th it is. Glad we all came up with the same answer.
Ummmm. Not exactly.
If you read my post a few above yours, I can't make it that weekend.
Course, I may join a different SCCA region alltogether next year, which would nix that problem.
Not too happy with the classification rules that the Great Falls club has.
I'd rather have no rules, than their bastardized system from the stone ages.
It's pretty rediculous when I'm running against cars that have coil-overs, FI, gutted interiors...blah blah blah.
But, that seems to be all for naught, as I'm sitting 1st place in class right now.[:D]
Mainly, because I've made it to every event, and not everyone else has.

LOL, your too good. I actually just graduated college at CU and started as Systems Electrical Engineer for Raytheon. That's all I'm allowed to say, I am not allowed to tell anybody about what I do, since it deals with the government. Where do you work/do?
The Vortech is my final piece going on my car, and my Focus is unofficially done. If I get the chance to get euro bumpers, I might snatch a pair of those up, but I think there isn't a single thing on my car I haven't touched or modified (except the bottom end) and I've had my car for over 4 years, so it's been a slow and steady process to get it to where it is now. The Vortech is really my splurge present for getting my new job and getting married in a month, and graduating all in one. Should be a fun car after it gets in, not like it isn't fun already.
Ok, we got really off topic, sorry WD40, anyways, that date sounds good to me. Just let me know if we will try and auto-x or track race so I can bring some tools and race rubber. Always come prepared!!![burnout]
_Celldweller 09-01-2004, 05:36 PM WD40... what would be a good date for you to make it to Rushmore next year? Shady and I were just throwing the date out there to see what people thought about it. But if a week or two after means you can make it then that's fine. Let us know.
Well, the week after would be Labor Day.
While providing a paid day off, we're usually visiting "relatives", or, they're visiting us that weekend.
Now 2 weeks after would be OK.
I know all the motels will have reduced their rates by then too.
In addition, though it wouldn't be fall colors in the higher elevations yet, it would be a bit cooler.
Also, might be a little less crowded in the parks.
Course, some of you have kids that would be in school as well.
Decisions....Decisions....
The folks in the Great Falls AutoCross club haven't narrowed down their schedule yet.
I was only told that next year's Top Gun event will probably be held during the same weekend.
IOW, the weekend before Labor Day.
I'm sure they'll make a decision by the next meeting, however, that's not untill September 26th.
Hey, if the majority would like to hold the 2005 MT Rushmore event on the dates discussed, that's OK by me.
Don't let me spoil the fun.[:D]
BTW, the dates of the 28th and 29th that have been thrown around....
You all realize that's a Sunday and Monday.
I would think everyone means the 27th and 28th.[;)]
Shady R 09-01-2004, 10:24 PM zincyellowfocus:
Electronics engineer, Design electronics for industrial and consumer use. And or redisign a predesigned device to better fit it's use more efficiently. In a nut shell.
Also I'm a Contracted Electrician, and an operations Engineer for a small co. called Tyco. I get board so I keep learning more. But youll see what I'm saying after you settle in to your job for a few more years. I'm a very care free person so I kid around and always joke a lot so it's always best to take every thing I say as kidding. Like my previouse post may or may not have L.E.D. on to.<<<get it.
WD40 I don't care when we go but all of us from the begening of this should be there. I wont leave you behind couse of some stupid date man. What would spoil the fun is to have a person not show up from last year. for me any ways. Thats why any date is fine with me. I want to see everyones face and car from last year and I want to see new faces to like zincyellow(you know your screen name is to damn long right so I'm calling you Zinc from this point forward)focus. Iknow all might not care about this but I do. I didn't look at a calender but I did mean 27, 28 or Sat , Sun. I'm never typeing this much ever again, and not get paid for it. HAHAHA
zincyellowfocus 09-02-2004, 09:11 AM LOL, I got it, EE humor is damn funny. I was just waiting for Dan (LEDzx3) to chime in and tell everybody how cool LED's are. It's ok if you call me zinc, it works for me since my car is technically a 2000.5 and that was the only year it was truly a zinc yellow, not eggyolk. Is Tyco the company that makes RC cars for kids?
Shady R 09-02-2004, 08:46 PM Yes, exact same one. Yah I could do the EE thing all day but my wife and friends would be so freaken lost, you know. I'm going to pm you. I don't want to get off this subject any further you know.
GreenEnvy 09-02-2004, 10:16 PM What was the subject. oh yeah, the 05 g2g.[idea]
I kinda think the weekend after labor day would be best. Very few tourists around and a lot less cars on the road. thinking that this spring a couple of us should get together and plan out a cruise route and such, have everything planned well in advance. need to drive the route so bad things are known (i.e. cattleguards in middle of blind curves, offcamber curves, etc.).[rolleyes]
[slap]
_Celldweller 11-23-2004, 12:28 AM bump... so yeah any ideas?
focituner 11-23-2004, 12:29 AM sounds like a cool idea wish i could go to mt. Rushmore
Looks like Top Gun 2005 (SCCA Solo 2) is on August 27th and 28th in Great Falls again.
Frankly, I'm not sure if I'm going to be in that club next year anyway.
A few of us have started "rumblings" of getting a Helena club started.
The Great Falls club has some funky classification rules.
IOW, nothing related to real SCCA format.
I'm tired of being in the same class as STI's, EVO's, and SRT-4's.
Granted, I've been faster than those guys a few times though.[thumb]
Helps that the course is so tight.
When is the Rapid City AutoCross in August next year?
RS-wagon 11-25-2004, 07:50 PM They haven't set the dates as of yet, usually don't set the dates until early spring.
I will keep posted.
