: Help! Procharger Build, Manifold Misery
04-17-2010, 12:34 PM
I was suppose to be datalogging my Procharged SVT today. Instead I went to the shop yesterday (friday) where I was having my kit installed I was told that during an accidental turn key (prior to loading the start-up tune from Tom) that the manifold cracked. FML. So now I have to wait until tuesday for a new manifold to come in and for them to install. The shop was very apologetic and is paying for the new mani and install. Heres my questions.
1. The shop is paying for a new stock manifold, but they suggested that it may be a good time to upgrade, so they offered to put how ever much the stock manifold cost towards me buying one of my choice. Is this a good option or should I just stick with the stock one?
2. What are the chances that the shop damaged more than just the manifold with the accidental start?
Any input would be helpful. And I am going to post up the belt size I an using with the overdrive pulley soon, I forget to get the size yesterday, I was still in shock that I was going to be out my car another week [scream]

Check the compression.....
And stick with the svt header. There is no "upgrade". Its the best choice out there.

Wait.. Intake manifold? Or exhaust manifold?

Usually cracking the intake manifold is a result of incorrect timing....it usually means more is damaged. Hard to tell, though.

oooo i thought you meant your exhaust.

What actually broke on the intake mani

Any idea what kinda damage we're talking about here?

It popped off and cracked from what I could tell, I had the upgraded hoses and clamps which I bought off CFM which I found out he hadnt put on at that point

This shop sounds like a joke...I don't care WHAT is holding the intake manifold on. It should never pop off and crack by just starting up the car.

I had mine pop off before. Remember only thing holding it on is a bolt and the metal clamps.
They may need to just tighten the clamps tighter. Stay with the stock manifold though.

Did it pop off under boost or on startup? Did it crack?

this sounds fishy to me?

This is a VERY common issue with the SVT after doing work to it and sitting a bit , I (havent in years) try to tell people after installing a lot of mods or boost to ALLWAYS when starting car to hold throttle at half or more for the first rotation of the engine then let off and let it crank
It happens and has happened a lot to me over the years , was at a FFW in Orlando and popped the intake starting it , long trip for nothing
A lot of people over the years has had this happen

wow didn't know this was a common problem with them..

Yupp, had mine blow off on first startup after sittin for a week or so till I got my base tune... I heard the intake pop on first turn... I would explain it sounding like a carb backfiring. Mine didn't break, just poped off couplers

Wow, i've never heard of it and mine is sitting in the garage whole winter every year...popped on me once, but under full boost..then I changed clamps....

I think sitting for winter is differnt. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with pulling the fuel rail and and the car bleeding the air out of the fuel lines. I have funny start situations every time I empty the fuel rail changing injectors or fuel filter

If the car site , open the throttle crank it let off throttle and let crank , if it back fires you wont loose the intake
