i have a set of the focus central low compression pistons. (FC-2609) !
I believe they are 8:2:1 compression. Please correct me if i'm wrong!
I am looking to get rings for them. I wanna put them in my turbo build!
I called probe industries today. They told me that those pistons were used with (SVT PISTON RINGS). Has anyone heard diufferent? Beside the stock SVT rings, what would ya reccomend?

Total seal piston rings, I am doing my engine right now and is highly recommended, you can contact "Fernando", Fast Tuner.

Seeing that Fernando is making insane power, I'd trust his recommendation [:)]

"Total seal" brand is fine just I wouldnt use a totaly sealed ring "Total seal" makes both actually "Total Seal" makes about 75% of all rings made

tom what are the pros/cons of a totally sealed ring and why do you advise not to use them? just trying to learn here

who would you use Tom? are there pros and cons about the gapless rings?
Would you stay away from the svt rings?

Gapless rings have pro and cons , I dont like them on smaller bores and I dont like them on boosted cars actually I dont like them at all

Its long and detailed , gapless rings using lap joints and some called slant have been around for 60 years and the exact rings have been used in ATX Trans even longer to controle fluids , They basicly were developed for air compressors. In the lower Cyl Psi grocery getter they may be fine but why use them there. High Cyl psi range is the problem and what " I " have seen is some race engines exceed 2000psi and this binds/distorts the rings and makes them worthless , read why below

They like to throw out how well the leakdown test show how well the rings work , problem is this is a static test much like a compression test where you dont have the heat , psi , extreem Cyl psi and does not show what they do with 15psi and 5000 rpm

In my opinion there a sales gimic and I have never seen them do anything woth the cost

Done even get me going on "Chrome Molly" as there is no such thing

Yes the SVT rings are good there the newer smaller lower tention "type" rings and will do what your looking for

Yes probes , I allways use file fit STD type rings nothing special

I also run the Probes with the file to fit rings.

This may sound stupid. what do you mean "file to fit rings"? Besides svt rings......what would be the next grade up you would use for more power?

File to fit rings are just your standard piston ring.. you have to file the rings to set your ring end gap.. all piston manufacturers give data sheets on the calculations based on bore size to determine a round about end gap for whatever your application may be.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought so, but wasn't 100% sure if i was correct or not!

what would you guys use as for an upgrade to the svt rings?

I would let some one do that that knows what there doing , there are top and middle rings , there you have to have the up part of the ring up , then you have to have the gaps rotated correctly

Then if your not carefull you will break the rings installing them into the Cyl

does anyone have pics or a diagrahm of the svt rings installed? is the groove side up or down?

they should have a dot on the end of the ring. the dot goes up

I have the orginal probe rings that came with my pistons if someone wants to buy them off me. I also have addition wrist pin locks (these we're super expensive) .

I went total seal, but my total seals we're custom. I believe its the middle ring is total seal and top ring is a gapped ring. Mine are reverse.
