: I want to hear from the MK2 owners...
JustHereFTM 01-12-2010, 06:37 PM For the MK2 owners, what do you have to say about the upcoming focus? this is ONLY for 2008-2010 model year owners. For the 2010 owners, do you wish you would have waited? Thinking about trading in your 2 year old focus for the fresh, new model? How many are keeping their MK2's and gunna love it til' the wheels fall off?
ChrissyL 01-12-2010, 08:39 PM Not even going to worry about it until: (1) the MkIII has been in production for at least two years; (2) my '09 is paid off or within a year of being paid off; (3) there's an available 6-speed real manual transmission; (4) and, dang it, I still want a real, proper Focus wagon, not a hatch or a C-Max...with EcoBoost and a six-speed manual, yo!
I wasn't able to get quite what I wanted when I bought my current fofo, but it's growing on me. It really wouldn't bother me too much to drive my '09 SES sedan until I have some compelling reason to sell/trade it. I'm not yet sure the MkIII will offer me what I really want in a small(ish) Ford.
xpeterbilt387x 01-12-2010, 11:12 PM I like the new Focus, but I also love my car. I'm probably going to keep mine as long as i can.
Phokus 01-12-2010, 11:14 PM I regret not getting certain options in my current focus but next time I know what to get.
I'll see how things go on the first year of the III and then depending on how good I'll decide whether to get the first year one or the 2nd year one. More likely year two after we all survive 2012 lol
FullMetal_Focus 01-13-2010, 12:49 AM I don't regret getting my 09 at all. I always knew the next gen Focus was just over the horizon but I needed a new car sooner than later.
My plan was to get my 09 for a DD that I can lightly mod till I paid her off. Once I do pay my 09 off I will buy another car that will be a sport model of some kind (ie. SVT, RS, ST, etc.) and take over for DD duties, then the REAL modding will begin on the 09.
It will probably take Ford a few years before a sport model of some kind for the MKIII Focus to come out so that gives me a few years to pay off my 09. Plus I really hope Ford brings out a 3 door hatch or coupe of some kind.
MichaelJD1980 01-13-2010, 07:32 AM (3) there's an available 6-speed real manual transmission;
Two transmissions will be offered at launch: Powershift 6-speed auto and a true 6-speed manual (with three pedals).
calvin1234 01-13-2010, 10:24 AM No regrets here...Let someone else have the bugs that will creep up during the first few years of the new MKIII.
ChrissyL 01-13-2010, 04:25 PM Two transmissions will be offered at launch: Powershift 6-speed auto and a true 6-speed manual (with three pedals).
There's some conflicting information out there about the manual trans offering. Some sources say a 5
five-speed, some say a six. Let's see what actually shows up in showrooms.
mjd4277 01-13-2010, 05:08 PM No regrets here. Even less so since:1. I got a new car for less thousands less than sticker.2.I bought it before the sales tax went up in my state.3. With the new body style, there's no more coupes/2-3 door hatchbacks for the time being-if Ford decides to bring them back 4.My car has everything I need and nothing I don't-just the basics-K.I.S.S.
Basically as long as FoMoCo keeps making the spare parts and the customer support for my MK2 going-I'm going to keep driving it.
calvin1234 01-13-2010, 06:39 PM Also a reminder: If you bought your NEW car between Feb. 17,2009 and Dec. 31,2009 you can generally deduct the sales tax. For details go to:
http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=204519,00.html
You do NOT have to itemize deductions to get the credit.
Mr.Bergner 01-13-2010, 06:50 PM Wait, I thought you were talking about people with the MKII:

kylesvt720 01-13-2010, 06:57 PM Technically I would think the new 2012 Focus is a MKII, since the 08-10 models are built on the same platform as 00-07...
calvin1234 01-13-2010, 07:02 PM This is a whole can of worms to open up and this is NOT the object of the thread...the point is we ('08-'10 owners) are discussing the NEWER body style/engine package vs the MKIII.
JustHereFTM 01-13-2010, 07:27 PM thanks calvin.
so far people seem to be staying on board with their, ahem, MK2's which is different from what i thought. i thought people would be jumping ship left and right, lol!

i was thinking the same till i open this up... sorry people with MK l.5.5, but i was really looking foward to hear what people with the "real" MK ll has to say.

Even then I still had to pay sales tax. MA increased its sales tax from 5% to 6.25% in 2009.
calvin1234 01-13-2010, 09:39 PM ^^Just trying to help you get some of that money back, but whatever..

start a thread and ask how the euro spec owners feel about the mk3, no need to wish for a new thread... [poke]
Matsuo 01-14-2010, 04:15 PM I'm a bit irked at the possibility of a 2.0 turbo (even if it is for fuel economy and not power... tho i'm pretty sure a retune could fix that pretty quick) and the fact that it appears to be 4 wheel disc brakes.. i think that is what irritates me more =( I want 4-wheel disc brakes. Oh and in my case, the newer Sync system -.- with built in pandora and nav and all that stuff... My '08 doesnt get all that cool stuff... Stuck in beta ftl

Yea 4 wheel brakes and possible turbo. Even if they don't come out with a sport model, if they throw in a turbo it won't even matter to alot of people b/c they going to mod anyway. Even if its tuned for economy, you'd still be able to throw in a tune and make the thing a rocket and still get decent fuel economy.
And yea, I thought this was Euro MKII also, not really sure if the 08-'11 are MKII, b/c they really are just a complete skin redo, everything else is the same. So really, they generation 1.5.5 like stated lol. 05's were the 1.5 then we just got another refresh but alittle bit more major.
Brings another thing up...do we consider this the MKII or the MKIII. IMO we pretty much didn't get an MKII and we just skip to MKIII. It'll be less confusing if we call it the MKIII instead of the MKII.

NO no no no no no no... we are not doing that again. "is this the mk2 or mk 1.x.x.x.x.x.x.x." This is a friendly discussion for 08-10 owners to say if they plan on upgrading to the mk3 or sticking with their MK2. please, as someone stated earlier, dont open that can of worms here. all it ever turns into is a whining session about how everyone wants an rs and we should have gotten the euro focus... its been noted; lets move on!!! [wiggle]
...back on topic im gunna stick with my 08 for a while longer. as ive stated before when ford gets the c-max 5-door over here ill probably try to snag one when they come out but for right now im very pleased with my focus :)

the new sync system is pretty attractive i must say. i just wish they kept the gauges analog instead of on the digital screen. i guess if it works then it doesnt matter. 4 wheel disc brakes seems to be a big selling point now a days so im glad the upcoming focus got 'em!

Thats my opinion of a mk2 aswell.
Im sorry to all the coupe owners, but i honestly dont see em as a tru fofo as when i hear the word focus i think hatch
JustHereFTM 01-14-2010, 07:51 PM ^^ again, its been noted...
uh60james 01-15-2010, 12:57 PM I will be keeping my 2010 probably until she's all paid off. Its a great car and I don't regret getting it at all! The new focus is pretty slick though! But I guess I don't have a Focus anyways since mine isn't a hatch?!?! LOL

If that's the case you might as well say the sedans and wagons not fofo as well since those were one of the more popular styles here(especially the sedans since they were the "bread and butter" of the Focus lineup). But I digress, that's probably been noted as well.
BOT: Like I said,as long as Ford keeps making the parts,I'll keep driving it.
