i opted for a short ram intake for the time being. got a mac. i will get a full cai after the rain season(towards next spring). the draw back on the short rams is heat, so would one of those metal heat shields be a good investment? or am i fine without it. it was 106 outside today!!

umm why pay for another intake. one is fine. i dunno about getting a heat shield unless its a full enclosed shield. Any other type is almost pointless for the money you spend on it.

cuz a full cai is alot better than a short ram. we have a good rain season, and i do not want hydrolock, so i plan to run my short-ram through the bad weather and a cai in the good. so the heat shield is not needed then?
It's pointless. Like someone states, it has to completely close off the filter from the engine bay and if you were going to want to do this, just get the VOLANT and be done with it.
Stick with what you have, save the money for the heat shield and use it towards a CAI or even better yet, sell both and get the VOLANT......

Heck, just take the hood off the car.... then you will have a CAI for free! Or do what S2 said!

if you can fabricate a shield blocking off the engine heat, and using some piping of somesort to get alot of fresh air to the filter youll be good, thats kinda what the volant does.. but just look into it more.. something will come to mind..
