I'm new here but i have read up on this site for awhile now, everybody seems to be quit knowledgable about engine mods.
I have a question about racing headers and the difference between the 4-1 and the 4-2-1 headers and about how much louder is the exhaust? Eventually I'd like to purchase race headers, i'm wondering how loud they are.
P.S i still have a stock exhust, and what exhuast system would any of you recomend(spelling, its 12:30a.m)[:D]

I have a magnaflow exhaust on mine as for sound there probably not as loud and less resonance than most but they sound VERY SWEET... here's some sound filesMagna flow (http://www.magnaflow.com/04sound/import.htm)

well, I have Borla exhaust and today my friend helped me install a focus sport race header. It's a 4-1, and it is VERY loud. it kind of took away the borla tone, but I bet it would be a lot higher pitched without it. The installation was pretty easy except for the fact that everything inside the engine bay is so cramped. Some of the bolts were really hard to get to. Other than that it went in okay. Hope that helped some.

i really want to purchase some headers as well. however money is tighter than a g-unit concert

4-1 headers take the exhaust from the four cylinders and it all goes into one pipe. (4 to 1). the 4-2-1 header goes from 4 at the cylinders to 2 pipes then to one (4 to 2 to 1)
the 4-2-1 race header would be a bit better then the 4-1, if it is designed correctly. however, the only current 4-2-1 race header for the SPI(made by focus-central (http://www.focus-central.com/catalog/details.asp?cid=2&sid=&pid=90)) is designed for the wrong ignition sequence. It may still be better then stock, i dont know, but i do not think it is worth the $, unless you have plenty of $ to burn.
The other options for race headers are the header from an 86-90 escort GT and a header that is currently being designed for the FJ SPIers in a one time offer.
