got a lead on a wrecked '05 for a decent price, just wondering if anybody has any experience with swapping a duratec in place of the spi. mainly looking for any real points of concern. i was told the '05 was hit hard in the front, so it may not play out. but any feedback would be great. thanks!

Should bolt right in. You will need to swap a ton of wiring so I would suggest removal of the dashboard on both cars. The radiators are different. Also the fans are different. So hopefully those didn't get ruined too.
This swap is only worthwhile if you had a donor car.
But now you have me looking for a wrecked ST focus & an spi sedan with a blown engine.

i love being home and actually being able to search the forum on a computer and not my phone... so as long as this '05 is legit, i think i have my donor car. hopefully all the major components (engine, tranny, etc.) are in usable shape... i'll just have to keep my eyes open when i go look at it.
EDIT: Definitely NOT usable. Whoever wrecked it hit a pole so hard it pushed the motor into the firewall. Not gonna take my chances there. I did stumble across a 2.0 Duratec with transmission (auto), most accessories (no a/c compressor), and whatnot for a decent price. Off to do more research...

^^ You want a rear ended vehicle. Any frontal impact that totals a car can potentially damage the transmission. You're right to try to find a complete vehicle. You'll need to pull the carpet/seats, and replace all the modules in the car so that those will jive with the new computer. Your biggest problem might be ABS or SRS if your vehicle doesn't have the extra options that the donor vehicle has. The good thing is that if you don't want the SRS seats- you can sell them for a pretty penny, the same goes for the steering column air bag if it wasn't deployed. You might be able to recoup your entire purchase by selling parts you don't need after the install- even if you're selling them to junkyards.
