According to Kelly Blue Book -

Trade in value is: $3,475

Private Party is: $5,330

The challenge you have is finding someone willing to pay for the modifications. In the reseller market, the mods mean nothing to the value of the car. You never get out what you put into the car. It's a sad reality. That said, you may be able to find someone willing to pay for them, but I wouldn't count on much more than $5,000

To maximize your investment, I would recommend that you return the car to stock trim. Ask $5,300 and sell the go fast goodies on this forum or on ebay.

By selling the mods, you can expect to recover about 50% of your total investment.

Good Luck!

That poses a problem....

I get the impression that you need to sell it quickly.

Without the stock parts I would ask $6,000 - $6,500 at the most. More than that - with a USED car you will have difficulty.

The bottom line is that you need to determine what you minimum threshold of pain is to sell.

If you aren't willing to sell the car for less than $6,000 then you are better off keeping it and being selective about the buyer.

Very few would even consider a modified car for $7500.

To put it in perspective, I am buying a 2004 SVT Cobra RACE Car. There is over $20,000 invested in the motor alone, Full cage, tube chassis, suspension and BIG brakes.

The seller's asking price is $3,700. Because it is a track car with lots of modifications, he can't sell it for what he invested into the car.

To you it's worth it. To someone else that may not be the case, most of the time.

Listen to the snake [thumb].

Ask a price high enough you have some room to negotiate and still get what you need out of the car. But if it's a case where you need a quick sale be prepared to get low balled and take one of the offers.

Curious as to the why though?
I mean you're selling a car that I assume is paid for and should get somewhat decent mileage then going an looking for one that is a bit cheaper, you have no clue on it's history/maintenance . . . for what gain to you?

kjsoccerdude

You do have Build Number 1 so maybe if you advertise right you could get some Focus Fanatic out there to buy it from you for a good price.

Race cars HAVE NO VALUE until you start talking about prototypes, open wheel cars or exotic cup cars.

Why?

They will not pass emissions, they have no DOT approved safety devices (i.e. airbags and seatbelts - harnesses are not approved), the paint is always marred and often the frames are stretched and patched.

Further, even with LOTS of $$$ in the car, it has been raced. Engines can/should be torn down and rebuilt a minimum of every year. This one has less than 20 hours use, but that could be 20 races...or 40....

They produce a LOT of power, but they are time bombs. I can pick this thing up in a week and have the motor let go a month later. Then it is ME who has to invest big dollars to get it running again.

Pick up any issue of an SCCA news letter and you will see race cars selling for DIRT CHEAP. If you ran in those circles, you would understand.

My point in using that example is that the mods and go fast goodies mean nothing when it comes to assessing the value of a car that is no longer stock.

You asked for advice, I gave some.

Up to you to determine if I am credible.

Good luck.

I'm in the process of buying a SVT with a JRSC with 70k miles for $5500. This one does have a rebuilt title however, so keep that in mind. I think $6000 is reasonable, maybe a little more and work your way down. I wouldn't let it go for much less than $5500...

i would try to find another way around than selling your car.... im sure that you can work some kind of payment plan for the court thingy.

at worst case, sell your body or some shit around the house first. if you sell your car for $7000 and buy another car for $3500 then whats taxes and all that added on top? so at best your already out $4,000 and down to $3,000..... and if you get something that seems good and is actually bad, then you are [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)].

try to get more time, thats all you need, show them that you are unemployed and are looking for a job, im sure they won't force you to pay fully right up front, im not 100% sure, but it would seem like they have alternative payment methods...... please don't just jump to selling your car....

Ive been looking for work everywhere. Even FAST FOOD and nobody is hiring :[

You should be able to set up a payment schedule with the court. I've never heard of a court system that won't allow it. I've seen as low as $10/week. Granted you don't have income right now but @ a low payment you could make it by donating plasma or sperm (don't laff, you can pull an extra couple grand a year doing either or).

And if your looking to get by with cheaper insurance, it'd be a good idea to talk with your insurance guy and find out what vehicles are plausible and what is out.

Oh, the whole build #0001; I highly doubt it'd add any value to the car. The miles really kill that one IMO.

Did you see the Silver 02 SVTF for sale located in Justice? I was looking at it. Rear molding is black, so something was done to it. Starting to rust in couple places, very minor rust whoever. 99K miles, all paperwork etc. clean title and he is asking 5900. I offered him 4000 but i wouldn't buy it anyway after I found that coolant tank was empty and there was a bottle with oil in the trunk. Don't expect too much. I got $4000 for my 03 ZX3 with 90K and rebuild title. Maybe you gonna be lucky as well ;)

Usually it depends on the judge's disposition and also where the offenses took place.

(BTW,you didn't get busted in Kane or DuPage County did you? Just figured I'd ask.)[thumb]

If you can, before going to your next court date try going to the Circuit Clerk's office to see if they can arrange a payment plan for you. Seeing as how you're without employment you might even qualify for hardship of some sort. if you still have to get rid of your hatchback but still want to rock a Focus you might want to consider either a sedan or wagon model(they'll be cheaper on the insurance that the hatchbacks).

The answer is that insurance is regulated by the individual states, so rates vary significantly from state to state. There's no use comparing rates from California with rates from Texas . . . .

drive 60 miles to argue your case for not being able to pay it, much better than selling your car!!!!

just explain that you are currently unemployed, looking for a job, and going through college.....

LIFE IS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD

I LOVE YOU GUYS

But you must be born with mammaries for me to love you back.

So I guess that means you're not going to be selling your car- which is probably good. Any time you get a new used vehicle, you have to spend so much time getting things in order- or checking to make sure things are in order on it.

If you ever do have to sell it- then think of it differently. The value of the car is equal to what you need to get out of it. The world is filled with idiots who have more money than sense. I have sometimes been that idiot myself. That's who you want to sell your car to, but the most important part is that you get the price that you NEED for it. Value means nothing to someone who wants something badly enough to pay a little more than someone who doesn't want it. I have seen people pay $5k for an old Lincoln body with no engine in it and a chopped (very good job) top. I personally sold a 79 Datsun 1 ton pickup with dents in every square foot of it, no radio, Weber carb (made it run rich), rusty chrome wheels, and holes in the muffler for $1500. I have no idea how many miles were on the darn thing. Vehicles are worth whatever you can get someone to pay you for them.

Only people experienced with purchasing vehicles will check things like CR reports, KBB or NADA values before picking a vehicle to go look at from the internet or paper. Everyone else bases their decisions on their emotions, and if you haven't figured out that your emotions are your worst enemy in life- you will eventually. Looking for my wife's van- nearly every car dealer in Memphis was selling old mini-vans for $2k or more over NADA value. I had to go all the way to AL to find a good deal for her. They still sell them eventually.

Be the guy who gets the most money for the cars you sell, and don't be the guy who buys a car without looking for a good long time so you know you're getting the best deal and not just buying what you want the first time you see it.
