I was going through the www.ALLDATAdiy.com to sign up for their service and as I selected my type of car, it asked me if my engine was a:
DOHC VIN 3; or
DOCH VIN 5.
I know it is DOHC for sure but that is VIN 3 and VIN 5?

Its about your VIN number. Does it start with a 3 or a 5

Hmmm,it has been my experience that the engine code is the 8th position in the VIN on most vehicles however since I just looked at mine and it starts with a 3 as well as a 3 in the 8th I'm can't say for sure.

Not true about start, I forgot which number or vin it is but, VIN 5 IS AN SVTF, I know that for a fact, and VIN 3 IS THE NON-SVT DOHC. its like the fifth or seventh or something like that.

But, you really dont have to look to deeply, if u got an svt its a vin 5, if u dont its a 3 (DOHC only)

...and if you have a 'Z', it's a 2.3

Joy, I'm gonna have to go through mine with a fine tooth comb, 3-Mexico could be worse I guess.

While searching for another issue I stumbled across this very useful info in the How To section.

Thanks to all. It was the 8th digit and I confirm my engine is a DOHC VIN 3. Also thanks JeffYoung69 - the site has a lot of good VIN info.

LoL More worried about the previous owners stupidity than anything, slightly surprised that it has been in my driveway for about a month now and no drops or leaks. Either she didn't have it long before she wrecked it or she did manage to take care of it. One of these days I'll get some pics up to show all what I have to work with.
