Don't get too optimistic about this. This is the definition of temporary.
I won't get into it but there is a thread in the Chat section.
C4C WILL be extended and last a bit longer though. No planned fillibuster anymore.
I bet that most of the new money will go to car deals already in progress but were being held up by the govts C4C website (designed on an Atari 800 from 1982 no doubt).

Herro [wave] I got mine on the CFC deal, I traded in a 95 Town Car with 269k. I have to say it's a huge step up in the Fun To Drive department. [:D]

Congrats on your purchase! You will love the heck out of that car!
Don't hesitate to get active within your regional area. That's the way to have an amazing time with your car and like-minded people!
ChrissyL 08-04-2009, 03:42 AM [welcome], 09vistabluecoupe and d_Ryan!
Warneej has got it right; you'll love driving your new Foci! They're not perfect, but they're darned impressive to drive and will grow on you, if my experience with my '09 SES sedan is any indication. Being active on the Forums and in person with your regional groups is a worthwhile way to learn a lot about your new rides and have some fun, too!
mjd4277 08-04-2009, 05:00 AM Welcome newbies!
akcapfoc 08-04-2009, 06:44 AM I'm really proud of Ford... though the company's health stems
largely from the family's huge risk taking... to essentially protect
their collective asses:
(from the Wall Street Journal, one week ago)
Those Wild and Crazy Fords (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052970203972704574316290482234198.html)
In almost every respect, this was luck, not design, except for the fact that family pride drove the Fords to do what every book of sensible investing told them not to do, which was double down.
TnFocus 08-04-2009, 07:09 AM Awesome. Ford's got some ball about themselves, and thats why my next NEW car will be a Ford.
whynotthinkwhynot 08-04-2009, 07:20 AM If I could afford the payments, we'd trade in the van. It's getting like 18 mpg now, but I'm not ready to saddle myself with another long term loan at this time. Plus, full coverage on the van is cheap-LOL. My wife drives it, so that's the reason for the FC.
bluefront 08-04-2009, 08:07 AM I sure hope all you guys who went for that CFC deal, thank the rest of us tax-payers who have to pay for your good deal.
Me.....I had an old sort-of clunker with about 150K on it. Wouldn't have qualified for the deal however, because it was already getting 30mpg. I just can't figure this out. Seems that people are being rewarded for buying these older gas-guzzlers. While the people who made good choices in the past are having to pay for it.....
[rant]
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 10:05 AM Did you forget that we pay taxes too ?
Also you have to own and insure the car for over a year so it's not like you can just go out and buy a gas guzzler then trade it in. I had my Lincoln for a long time.
Thanks for chipping in on my car though [thumb]

Ya i was pissed when they told me i had to wait 2 weeks to get mine. Longest 2 weeks of my life lol.
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 10:23 AM I know what you mean, I went test drove/put a deposit on my Focus back in June when I first heard about this. I had to wait basically a month.
So why'd you have to wait 2 weeks ? That's when you'd have the car for 1 year ?

Ya i went to get the car on the 10th when i put a deposit on it. Then they told me that i had to have the Taurus for a year since registration which was the 28th[bash]
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 10:39 AM So your dealer didn't have a 5spd ?
CFed28 08-04-2009, 10:47 AM So your dealer didn't have a 5spd ?
they did but not in the color i liked.
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 10:56 AM Where's logmeadow ? My dealer had a identically equipped Silver one also.
CFed28 08-04-2009, 11:19 AM mass
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 11:41 AM Mass eh ? I'm a bill collector and we cant take post dated checks from people in your state. [mad]
So what year Taurus did you trade in ?
telemike 08-04-2009, 12:15 PM Just picked up a 2009 Focus SES Sedan. Traded my '97 Chevy S10 in. CFC for $4500 plus $3750 Ford rebates. Really like it so far.

Chances are very good that many people benefiting from C4C are not contributing, i.e. paying taxes. About 40% of the U.S. population pays NO FEDERAL TAXES. Sure, it comes out of their paychecks every week, but they get them back in April (not including FICA, which everyone pays, but those funds aren't going towards C4C).
The numbers are thus: Single with no children = no taxes up to about $9000/year; Married with no children = $18000; a family of four (two parents, two children) can make up to $43000 before having to pay a cent of income tax that would go towards C4C.
warneej 08-04-2009, 01:53 PM ^^this isn't exactly the place to discuss politics.

I really like the color. Nice choice and welcome to FF.
bluefront 08-04-2009, 05:26 PM This whole program is extremely political, and has a whole lot more to it than is immediately obvious.
Everybody pays taxes....some more than others. But this CFC program gives certain people who owned gas-guzzlers, a $4500 tax rebate (in effect), which others do not get. Fair? Of course not......
And there are other effects......the value of every used Focus (and most other used cars) which we are all driving, has been instantly reduced substantially. And that includes all those used cars on the dealer's lots.
So who gains.....a few people. Who loses......the rest of us. [mad]

Sheesh - $8,250 off the car??? Fantastic. Glad you had the good taste to go with the red (since maybe I helped pay for it just a teeny bit). Looks really sharp. Congrats.
Gee, maybe I should suggest to my mom that she trade her Bentley Turbo R in to get the CFC deal on a new Focus...
09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 05:55 PM Seriously, and I thought I got a good deal with 7k off of mine [mecry]
Also I usually don't like red cars but that is a nice color. [thumb]
akcapfoc 08-04-2009, 06:23 PM the value of every used Focus (and most other used cars) which we are all driving, has been instantly reduced substantially.[mad]
Not necessarily.
First: The rebates of $3800 came from Ford and ostensibly could go to any of us, and would have.
Second: The clunker had some value...the S10 was worth say $1K.
Third: The last $3500 difference wasn't a reduction in price -- and thus not a reduction in value -- because someone paid that amount. In this case, the government.
So while the program does reward purchasers of fuel inefficient vehicles, which is somewhat crappy, I'm really glad the program has helped Ford... and it's helped get some older fuel-inefficient cars of the road.
Villain 08-04-2009, 06:27 PM I got my '09 from the C4C, though I had an '01 until the clutch failed on me a few weeks ago... now waiting for someone to purchase it and put a new clutch in it themselves.
If it wasn't for the program, I'd probably look to fixin the '01 myself, but it would be another 3 - 4 months of saving for the clutch + engine work that likely will need to follow it. May as well put the same money I'd save into a much nicer vehicle :)

09vistabluecoupe 08-04-2009, 09:29 PM I like that color Villain. [;)]
mjd4277 08-05-2009, 12:48 AM I missed out on the C4C program(bought mine back in April)but I'm eligible for the tax credit. The real good part is I bought my car before the state sales tax increase went into effect(MA increased its sales tax from 5% to 6.25% as of August 1st).
Crakaveli 08-05-2009, 09:38 PM not anymore (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/reuters/MTFH33012_2009-08-05_23-12-49_N05179751.htm) corolla is now #1
It will get people involved in car deals that they don't need to be in, all in the name of government help. Any time you hear the cavalry coming, keep in mind that they work for the government. With the government, there is always a hook and a twist, and if you have to go into debt to get a "deal", that's a stupid idea. You are much better off to drive your clunker.
Twowwwerf 08-05-2009, 11:17 PM Haha I talked to a salesmen today and he said he's just dying for more inventory!
Power to Ford!
Invest in Ford Stock!

What's wrong with the Atari 800? I have three of them.
bluefront 08-06-2009, 03:45 AM Here's what I've been hearing lately.....the good deals that you could get from dealers before CFC, are starting to go away. So now you won't get that nice, big discount from your dealer, only the CFC discount.
Not every dealer is doing this yet.....but if you want a good deal, do it immediately. This CFC is going to be history very quickly. No telling what the dealers will be doing then......back to square one, and maybe sanity.
Reparation 08-06-2009, 01:12 PM not anymore (http://money.cnn.com/news/newsfeeds/articles/reuters/MTFH33012_2009-08-05_23-12-49_N05179751.htm) corolla is now #1

Awww, damn. I was all up on my Focus pride and now the torch is passed to Corolla :(
I actually test drove a new corolla not too long ago, and I like my focus better. It's a very nice car, don't get me wrong, but I don't like how it handles compared to my focus. POWER TO FORD!
MichaelJD1980 08-07-2009, 07:12 PM Now the Escape is #1 according to AutoBlog.
My dad works at Wayne Assembly and had a "forced vacation" scheduled for this month canceled because they need to build more Foci. They went from a 120 day supply to nothing in a week.

What the eff? The entire list is like a whole different world.
