This fall, our friends to the south will have a new hatch to choose from when the all-new Chevrolet Agile hits the market. GM released a few sketches of the new compact five-door ahead of its official unveiling, complete with Chevy's two-tier grille, angular headlamps and a strong shoulder line flowing over the front wheel arches and through to its sculpted haunches.

The Agile was developed entirely in Brazil, and production is set to begin in a few months at GM's manufacturing center in Argentina. It's also likely that the Gamma II-based B-segment hatch will be built at the General's Lake Orion, Michigan facility and what we're looking at is the next generation Aveo, due to arrive sometime in 2011.

With a wheelbase just over 98 inches and powered by a choice of either a 105-hp 1.4-liter or a 129-hp 1.8-liter, the Agile may finally provide GM with a competent competitor to the 2010 Ford Fiesta (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010FordFiesta/) when it arrives in the U.S. Make the jump for the (Google-translated) press release.

This pales in comparison to the Fiesta. Especially the interior (GM sucks at interiors). Take the Fiesta and put it side by side to the Agile, remove the badges and ask people what they think and I promise you the Fiesta gets more favorable results. I know this is a sketch, but I could easily see this going to production.

MMmmm, I don't know if I'd say GM sucks at interiors. The newest offerings are alot better then what Ford has been putting out. Cept, the new mustang, and the taurus. Not that others aren't nice, they are, but I think GM has had them one upped. Fords coming back though. But like...the Chevy Malibu, Caddy CTS, new Buick Lacrosse, to name a few...all gorgeous very well done interiors. I love GMs style of making wrap around dashes too that have one flowing line all the way across and along the doors.

But, Fiesta looks way better on the outside then this thing. I assume this is just going to be the Spark.

Available 129 hp 1.8- possibly Opel engine. That sounds a lot better than the available engine for the Fiesta. The Fiesta might be a better car overall, but just like with the Cobalt SS- many Fiestas will get smoked by GM because they at least make some small attempt at a performance model in their small car lines.

if ur buying the fiesta stock for stock w/ the agile, its not likely ur going to race them, but w/ a few mods and w/ Tom who WILL develop a kit for the fiesta (hint hint at what he should do!!) then it will be alot faster!
