Well i called the dealer today and they told me the car sound under the tire was the rack and pinion...caused by an impact..
well my car was hit on febuary and the sound started like on july...
so it is new...
they claim the par will not be covered under warraty bexouse it was hit...

the price for the part is 900+ plus the labor @50/hr !

where can i get a new rack and pinion for the car ?
or can it be fixed ?

[update]

i went to pick up my car today....
and i'm so piss right now !

ed, focal, chris (euro) anyone who really know about car...i need your help....

As some of you know i had a fender bender on feb...not a big deal but they give enough money to put an euro front to the car.
So, since i change the bumper and stuff the jerks at the dealer asumed that the rack and pinion was damage becouse of the hit....so...how hard must be a hit to damage a r & p ? where the hit must be do that....

i also ask the to fix the leak...since they "dindt found" any leaks they dindt fix it...yesterday we had some rains so there is water on the floor and NOW they will check it...no they say leak was probably caused by the "accident" as they call it...and it will not be cover by the warranty...i told them like 2000 times there is a tbs about it and they keep saying they know shit about it....so...does anyone here have the compleat TBS abut the water leak on the passanger side...i really need that so i can go with a copy to them....

thanks...

The only place I could imagine you would find one less than retail would be a junk yard? And you'd have to be real careful and get a good one or else have the same dilemma over again... I don't know if any 'junk' cars would have a good rack and pinion system, but could be possible? [???:)]

Just like when you go to the doctor, and there's a possibility that they're wrong. . . SECOND OPINION. Get another mechanic to take a look. Plus, I'm pretty sure that Ford has a grievences line or something if you think it should be covered, and the dealer says that they won't. The other option is, if Ford insists the damage is from the accident, call up the insurance company, and tell them. Let Ford and the insurance company slug it out.

dude...look on a search engine...there is a large database between many large junk yard across the country...they will find the parts for you. personally, i think you should take it to a privately owned shop....those are the guys that have the most knowledge...for all you know, it could have been a loose bolt.

good to hear... if possible though, get a look at the old rack if you can, i wanna seriously know what was wrong. i still have a feeling you just bent a tie-rod.

ps: i don't understand how the hell a rack for the focus could be that much cash....because basically rebuilding or buying the parts seperate...it would be just over 400 or so...or around there, hell the most expensive thing i could probly think of is the pinion valve...i hate how some of these company price shit

i think the problem with the rack and pinion was cause by the instalation of the driver side axel back in april....aparently the other dealer did something wrong....
but i will ask to the dealer if they can show me the rack and will let you know...

hey ed....
about the overheating...
they told me it was something about the radiator....
what could that be?
the resistor again?
what should i ask them to check?

thanks...
