: 08 Hid question

I want to install hids in my 08 fofo, however I do not know how to get rid of the drl's. On my brothers 06 it is just a fuse to pull, but I am not having the same luck. Any Ideas?

Please don't put them in your reflector housings, unless you plan to block the scattered light going above the "cutoff" with vinyl or paint on the lens of your headlight. Either that or go with a projetor retro or pnp projector headlight designed for your year.

Other than that, it is probably just a fuse like in your brothers '06. Check your manual.

I have checked the manual....nothing there.

I just checked the wiring diagrams. The daytime running lamps are configured into the SJB (Smart Junction Box). And unfortounatly unlike some ford vehicles there is no programmable parameter to turn them off. I just bought an 09 and put HID's in it. I just turn on my lights before I start my car and everything is fine. I noticed if i start my car then turn on my lights after the daytime running lights have been on then one cuts out and it cant turn them on until I put my park brake on then switch them on.

Yes hid's and drl's don't go together

There is a way around that but until you get projectors Im not gonna tell you. Its very easy though.

ohh, yeah i dont have drls, im from the states. ive seen a few threads about how to bypass the drls in the 08/09s since they are different than the years prior, try a search.

Finally got my HID's working. Only real (practical) option to avoid DRL flicker is to install the relay harness (with an included anti-flicker capacitor).

Theres really no way a DIY-er can disable the DRL's on the 08-09 foci, so just get/make yourself a harness+capacitor combo.
08 projectors + 6K HID's are a thing of beauty lol, now to get my halo's flashing when I lock the car :P

were you able to keep your high beams with your hids? that was the only thing i couldnt figure out yet

By high beam do you mean the one from turning the dial? or by pulling back the signal lever?

No highbeams. Don't you need a bi-xenon kit for that?

signal lever. but theres a mechanism in the projector that allowed you to use the high beams before you switched to hids. the h9 bulb isnt a high beam but it moved the beam or something i read and made it look like one

that sounds right. mine will move that thing thats responsible for the projector cutoff. it wont actually make it brighter (highbeam) like you said

i guess what im asking you is if you have the HIDs in the new projectors, were you able to get the high beams to work? you need to wire the thing separately but i havent had time to tinker with it

My hids are in the new projectors. The beam moves when I pull the lever back for highbeam. Mine came like that? Just as I didn't have to fix the metal pin on the red peg for the halo wiring as per your writeup. Maybe they changed a few things since? Or somehow Canadian 08 focuses are wired slightly differently? I'm starting to wonder why my sidemarkers don't flash either?

there are no sidemarkers on the halo projectors. you bought HIDs with the projectors or you got them after the fact?

Got them after. I mean that sidemarker harness won't flash even the original bulbs.

I have been trying to find a dealership that would be willing to disable the DRLs and none of them are willing to disable it. I have even offered to pay a tech some extra cash under the table and still wont do it. I hate DRLs!!!

Where did you get the parts from? What exactly did you do to disable the POS DRLs?

You can't disable the DRLs, you just get the relay harness with a capacitor for the relay, and whenever you put the car into drive, the HIDs will come on automatically.
At least that's what I've done. I drive with my full headlights on all the time anyways.
