Hello, Sorry in advance if this has been asked before but i couldnt find an answer. So my auto spi is toast and its time for a new engine. I have read the posts about what is needed for going to zetec and manual. I read that if you switch ECU your keys will need reprogramming so to avoid having to tow the car to ford can i reuse the ignition cylinder & keys from the donar car? just want to clear this up before i take the plunge.

yes you can, i know so because i have done it. so now i have one key to unlock the doors and a separate one to start it.

No you cannot , you will still need to go to Ford and have the PATS/keys programmed unless you change out the entire wiring harness, switch ,PATS ,ECU etc
The Key has a chip in it , behind the Cyl there is another chip these 2 have to be set the same to communicate with each other

Oh I guess you posted that while I was responding to the first response, I plan on having a donor car so I could swap everything or I guess I will just take the car down to ford if I decide to go that route. Thanks for the response

I would definitely swap all harnesses and other above mentioned..... not worth it in my opinion to need three keys.

i am in the process of getting everything ready for a manual swap on my zetec. so i will have to take it to ford and get them to reprogram my keys to the new ecu? anyone have any idea how much that costs?

When I got a second key a while back it was something around $60 (Cad) for the programing.
