: SVT turbo recommended gauges for the full picture?

As the title says... What gauges should I go with for a turbo setup on an SVT focus.... I know the oil temp and oil pressure gauges are bogus and I plan on removing them... I was thinking an a/f, real oil pressure, j&s, boost.... What else would be recommended to make sure that I have a full and complete package of what is going on?

Those are the exact gauges I'm getting. Don't claim to be an expert, but this is the way I see it:
boost - needed for boosted applications!
oil pressure - if your pressure drops, turn off the motor to prevent damage
A/F - running lean, let off the gas
J&S - knocking, let off the gas
Other parameters seem a little less important. I know the stock coolant temp gauge isn't that accurate, *but* if it spikes you know your motor is getting hot. Oil pressure is much more important than oil temp. EGT can be useful, but once you start getting gauges like that, your car is gonna look like a friggin Christmas tree.

All independant gauges.

Ahhh, didn't think of fuel pressure. Might get that one later. People have seemed to survive without having all those, though, John. For instance...if fuel pressure drops off and you get less fuel...your wideband is going to indicate that, correct? I guess you would just need to keep an eye on it and you would be fine.

Ahh fuel pressure and EGT... gotcha! Check! Thanks! :)

The fuel pressure gauge served its pourpouse... I put it in early on back when I was messing around with the fueling issues that all Foci have..... thats when I figured out how to make big fuel pressure on the stock set up.

And how did you do that? I'm gonna need pretty good fuel pressure.

I used a
boost (30 PSI),
then later I got oil PSI. See your in Iraq, Im in Afghanistan. take care.

I wouldnt say EGT is really needed , it would just scare you , your AF Gauge will do the job just as good

well im getting ready to drop my turbo in, and the gauges im running
havent really heard why the fuel press is nessecary...(kinda new to this engine build)
and tom, are you saying a/f is all you really need...like maybe just cut out egt all together. thanks
and hey will, how is iraq...i should be there in like 6 months...

Does the J&S come with the gauge? Figure the price tag.. it should
07-12-2009, 10:03 AM
Nope, the gauge is extra.

well damn. I dont like gauges everywhere.. I already bought the a/f and boost gauge. what is that gauge called for the J&S?

Ever heard of OPSEC??? Try to keep such as that down.
Please don't post dates that you're coming home and where you're currently stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan. If you're going to Iraq in 6 months, keep it between friends and those who need to know, don't post that on a public forum for the whole world to see. (yes, Osama can get online and read this) The media jacks everything up for us enough as it is.
To the OP, I'm using boost, A/F, Oil psi, Fuel psi, and J&S

Thanks for the info all :)

The J&S needs to be where you eye will catch it if it goes off , thats for your engines safety and in my opinion needs to be very visual all the time
The other 2 AF & Boost can go in the glove box , once tune is done you need only to glance at then from time to time why in hard boost , you can also mount the boost controller there as well

I have my a/f gauge and boost gauge mount on my steering coloumn and my J&S will be mounted in the dash below the factory oil pressure and oil temp guages. A J&S gague I think is well worth it so that you can easily see what it's doing.
