: SPI to zetec swap.
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 01:04 AM Ok im going to be doing my SPI to Zetec swpa and have a few questions.
Will i have to remove the powere steering rack to drop the engine?
Are there any special tools required?
Might have some more that i cant think of right now./
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 01:32 AM yes and maybe.....likely not though (does torx count as special? [8])
if you were to pull the engine, you might not need to get rid of the steering rack.
aww sad....I just noticed it's like my car [:(]
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 01:59 AM Well I was going to drop it down from the bottom I dont feel like [:)][:)][:)][:)][:)][:)]g with the drivers side axle and i looked at another thread and it looks like thier would be enough room to drop the engien without having to remove the steering rack. torx bolt does count as special. wondering if i would need to use a special tool for the coolant and power steering clamps and that. does anyone have a writeup for draining the powersteering system? might as well change that out wile im iat it.
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 02:02 AM pick up a haynes or (Chilton?) manual they have procedures for engine removal (I know, I read it lol)
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 02:06 AM that would be helpful. might do that. i just realized we do have pretty much the same car LOL harves gold SE lol only differance is soon mine wont have SPI in it lol and yours looks better appearance wise than mine. min has a drop b and shorty abntennae but still has stock wheels lol anyways back to the original question
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 02:15 AM not quite back to it lol........ I have a DIY shorty, stock wheels (stang center caps, and chrome lugs [thumb]) flex back 2.25" exhaust, SPI of course, a black painted interior (still workin on that) and a DIY intake lol. true, though mine won't have an SPI in it TOO much longer (1-2 years) (just check my signature to see what I mean. LOL.) AND I also have been inspired by the FOCOS to attempt an AWD/4WD system [thumb]
NOW back to the original question......
reading the manual, it notes that dropping the engine, you can get engine/transaxle out together...pulling it means one at a time. not bad for either though.
doesn't say anything about removing the steering rack, though it does say to undo the front suspension (not remove, just undo [hihi])
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 02:26 AM not quite back to it lol........ Not quite back on topic those wre just mods you could see onmy car. heres everything. K&N short ram intaeke fdesigned for the zetec but modded to fit the spi but will still botl up to the zete, PCV breather filter, Crossdrilled and slotted brakes, Ceramic brake pads9Upgraded to those since the stock pads were just eaten up by the rotors) B&G Lowering kit(1.6in front 1.4 in back) CFM shorty Antennae,Stripped down interrior, AC compressor Bypass, Ford Racing Tailights and soon a SPI to Zetec swap, race header soon to be guage cluster swap and thats it i think unless im forgetting something. now back on topic. whats it say about removing the clamps on the coolant and power steering hoses? also what about the upper fuel hose does it say a special tool would be requiered? I dont plan on taking out the radiator and ill be dropping the engine and trans together from the bottem and I plan on using a hist to drop tnhe zetec in
focusmaniaczx3 06-29-2009, 02:51 AM oi i have a suggestion. why not pull to motor and tranny out the top at the same time with the hoist you are going to use to lower the zetec in? it will probably make it easier unless you have some sort of lift that can get ur car pretty high in the air. i think the torx size you need is the t20. good luck with the swap!
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 02:59 AM whats the torx socklet for?
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 03:23 AM A t20 is good for separating the air intake tube from the stock box...
Btw nice mods n plans. I don't expect mine to be finished for at least 3 years, LOL.
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 04:01 AM Oh i dont need the torx bolt im not running the stock air intake. I just have to unplug the Mafsensor unscrew a few clamps and my intake will be off. I got a K&N shortram and that attatches directly to the aluminum intake tube. well the Maf connects to the intake tube. also plan on raisint the stock hood in the back for coling to help cool the engine. so that will be the mod after i get done with the swap.
whynotthinkwhynot 06-29-2009, 07:30 AM Wrong forum, we have a special forum for Engine and Transmission Swaps. Technical Chat is for technical discussions relating to general maintenance, electrical issues, engine trouble, and recalls. Basically, problems you're having with your car.
Thanks
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 12:25 PM lol didn't even notice it was in the wrong thread.... all fixed though, eh? [thumb]
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 01:28 PM Oh sorry I just thought it might be more apprropriate thier than here due to it asking if id need any special tools for it but its ok.
mikebontoft 06-29-2009, 02:10 PM oh another thing......I just noticed on the back of the Haynes manual that it says ".....valuable shortcuts......eliminate the need for special tools."
SOHCTUNER 06-29-2009, 02:34 PM hmmm... that would be good
